ME 2355 Thermal Engineering Laboratory II

Time: 3 Hours Maximum Marks: 100

1. Determine the thermal conductivity of an asbestos material using guarded plate (100)
method

2. Determine the thermal conductivity of pipe insulation using lagged pipe apparatus (100)
and plot the radial temperature distribution in the composite cylinder for the
following readings 60 V, 70 V and 80V

3. Determine surface heat transfer co-efficient, local heat transfer co-efficient along (100)
the length of the tube and also to draw the graph between local heat transfer co-
efficient and distance along the length of the tube under the natural convection
mode.

4. Determine the heat transfer coefficient on the given forced convection inside tube (100)
apparatus with variable air flow rate and at constant heat input.

5. Determine the convective heat transfer coefficient of air using pin fin apparatus (100)
under natural convection mode.
6. Determine the convective heat transfer coefficient of air using pin fin apparatus (100)
under forced convection mode.

7. Determine the value of Stefan Boltzmann constant for radiation heat transfer. (100)

8. Determine the emissivity of the given test plate at any desired temperature using (100)
emissivity measurement apparatus.

9. Determine the overall heat transfer co-efficient on the given double pipe parallel (100)
flow heat exchanger.

10. Determine the overall heat transfer co-efficient on the given double pipe counter (100)
flow heat exchanger.

11. Determine the [i] Theoretical COP, [ii] Experimental COP, [iii] Carnot COP, and (100)
[iv] Relative COP of a vapor compression refrigeration system using thermostatic
expansion valve.

12. Determine the [i] Theoretical COP, [ii] Experimental COP, [iii] Carnot COP, and (100)
[iv] Relative COP of a vapor compression refrigeration system using capillary
tube expansion valve.

13. Determine the Carnot COP, theoretical COP and capacity of the refrigeration of (100)
air conditioning system on given air conditioning test rig.
14. Conduct a performance test on a two stage air compressor and determine its (100)
volumetric efficiency.

15. Conduct a performance test on a single-stage air compressor and determine its (100)
volumetric efficiency.

16. Determine the thermal conductivity of pipe insulation using lagged pipe apparatus (100)
and plot the radial temperature distribution in the composite cylinder for the
following readings 65 V, 75 V and 85V

17. Determine the heat transfer coefficient on the given forced convection inside tube (100)
apparatus with variable heat input and at constant air flow rate.

18. Determine the volumetric efficiency of a given single stage reciprocating air (100)
compressor.

19. Determine the thermal conductivity of pipe insulation using lagged pipe apparatus (100)
and plot the radial temperature distribution in the composite cylinder for the
following readings 80 V, 90 V and 100V.

20. Perform the performance test and determine the volumetric efficiency of a given (100)
two-stage reciprocating air compressor.
