With both world and national events on the forefront of

everyones minds these days, we urge everyone to re-assess


their personal and family preparedness. In an effort to
support our ward towards this end, we have listed below all
the Emergency Preparedness classes and conferences
which are upcoming in our general area over the next 3
months. They are as follows:

Water in the House Taught by Becky Goodrich. Thursday, Sept 7th, 7:30pm. LDS
Building 1930 North 600 West, Bountiful, UT. This class covers why, how much,
where to store water, as well as what containers should be used, dos and don'ts,
conservation and alternative sources of water in the home.

Water in the House Taught by Becky Goodrich Saturday Sept 9th, 3:30pm and
4:30pm. South Towne Expo Center 9575 South Street, Sandy, UT. If you cant attend
the Sept 7th class, Becky is teaching this class twice at the Utah State Prepare Expo on
Sept 9th at 3:30pm and 4:30pm, however there is a paid admission to the Expo to attend
these classes.

Utah Preparedness Conference Sept. 8 & 9th and the Sandy Southtowne Expo
Center. Friday hours are 2-9pm and Saturday hours are8am-6pm. $10 per person. For

Powerless Cooking -Taught by Cindy Miller Saturday. Sept 9th - 1pm South Towne
Expo Center 9575 South Street, Sandy, UT. She will be in room 200D.

Sheltering in Place -Locally and Nationally Saturday, Sept 9th 7pm LDS Building
6270 West 7000 South, West Jordan. Taught by Tua Tho. He is Captain of the United
Fire Authority. Tua works for FEMA as a logistics and Hazmat Specialist. This class
covers the when, why, and how to prepare to shelter in place regardless of where
you live.

West Jordan Copper Hills Stake 2nd Ward Preparedness Fair Saturday Sept. 9th
10am-1pm at the Stake Center at about 5100 W. Parr Drive in West Jordan. Two other
wards will be involved with helping to put this on. There will be display tables and
handouts. This is hosted by the Copper Hills 2nd ward, but everyone is invited.

Fermentation Taught by Angie Christenson Saturday, Sept 21st, South Jordan,


UT. This class has a $45 fee associated with it. Class teaches: How to make
fermenting simple and easy (no confusing instructions or complicated steps) so that
they have 100 times more probiotics in a single spoonful than any probiotic pill. Please

Alternative Remedies for the Infectious Diseases that Occur after a Disaster
Class Thursday Sept. 21st 7pm at the LDS Wildflower Building at 9227 S. Wild Clover
Ln. (4900 W.) West Jordan This class will be taught by Claudia Orgill who is the author
of Beyond Wheat and Weeds and Food Storage Powerhouse 12 Food Storage
Treasures and www.healthypreparedness.blogspot.com. Claudia was one of the
presenters at the ARE YOU READY? PREPAREDNESS FAIR last May. In this class,
you will learn about many non-herbal remedies and tools that you can store now that
can help to keep your family members healthy, even after a disaster or other break in
normal medical services. It is a very interesting and empowering class to attend. Most
people do not die from the initial disaster but die from contagious illnesses after a
disaster or from wounds that become infected. What would you do if you could not get
antibiotics? What would you do for dangerous respiratory illnesses

Thermal Cooking Taught by Cindy Miller Thursday, Sept 21st, Smithfield,

Gluten-free Food Storage Class Taught by Natausha Calveri. Friday Oct. 13th 7pm.
LDS Wildflower building 9227 S. Wild Clover ln. (4900 W.) She taught this class at the
ARE YOU READY? PREPAREDNESS FAIR last May. One of her children has some
food allergies and other health issues that got her started on her 19-year journey to find
foods that he can eat and she can store.

Sanitation in a Disaster Taught by Kathryn McMullin, Thursday, October 5th at 7:00


pm. - LDS Stake Center, 11685 Kestrel Rise Rd. South Jordan. This is for everyone
interested in this topic. Please bring a notebook and pen. No taping of the presentation
will be allowed. Kathy works for the State of Utah and does these presentations at
Preparedness Fairs and expos. She also offers this information to groups if asked to do
so. She is also known as the First Responder Mom. www.firstrespondermom.com This
information will be vital in the event of a large scale disaster or even if we experience a
long term power outage. Is your family prepared to deal with sewage and other
sanitation issues? Do you know how to prevent cholera and other killer diseases? Do
you have everything in your kit that you will need if it happened tomorrow? This class is
one you do not want to miss!

Water in the House Taught by Becky Goodrich. Saturday, Nov. 17th 7pm Location
TBD (we will post specifics closer to the date). This class is for those who may miss it
at the September Preparedness Fair at Southtown Expo Center!
