Lesson Plan- Items to include/Consider

Title, Grade, Subject Area, and Time Required- REQUIRED

Data graphing, 2nd grade, math, 30 minutes
Introduction/Overview-REQUIRED

A day before I will ask the students what they would love to learn about their classmates. And from
what they want to know I will accommodate them into the assignment.
Learning outcomes-REQUIRED

It will show students to learn and interpret questions into a chart. Allow students to apply data due to
the numbers of students in each section. They will learn the difference between a circle graph and a
bar graph, but have the choice of either one. They will learn to separate each one into their own
category. They will learn to draw a key-map to understand the relation of the graph. Apart from
relating to math they will learn a little more from their classmate that they can relate to.

Curriculum alignment-REQUIRED

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.MD.D.10

Materials needed-REQUIRED
I will pass out the 10 questions assignment to the students, and they will have the opportunity to ask
their class mates in class. I will allow them to tally the number for each section for the categories and
see the outcome. Then I will hand out a blank white paper; and they will draw either a circle graph or
a bar graph. I will provide them with color pencils and markers for them to be creative.

Technology resources-REQUIRED
The technology needed section includes technology resources used by both teacher and students,
including computers and related resources (internet connections, printers, and specific software such
as a word processing application or PowerPoint), scanners and digital cameras, projectors, VCR or
DVD player, etc.
Be as specific as possible when listing software and hardware requirements.-log-ins, who to see if
problems occur.
Specify how many of each resource is needed (one computer per student? per group of students?).
Provide alternatives if possible. For example, if you teach this plan with one computer per student,
try to offer a way to teach the plan with students in groups (in activities or supplemental
information) and note here that the plan can be so adapted.
Websites and APPS- REQUIRED
Related websites are websites to be used by the teacher or students in the course of this lesson plan.
They may be required or optional. Related websites may provide:
background information for the teacher about the content of the lesson
reading material for students
resources the teacher can use with students in the classroom, such as images or multimedia
reference material for the teacher about instructional strategies or classroom management issues
referred to in the plan
resources for students to use independently
For each website, please provide a title, URL, and brief explanation of how it relates to this lesson
plan.
Important! An external website should not be required for a teacher to use your plan unless it is
a highly stable, institutionally maintained resource.
Pre-activities-REQUIRED
They previously learned about different charts and how to create a legends.
Activities-REQUIRED

Students will have to ask their classmates 10 different questions and they only have the option to
answer from 2 sides. They will choose 4 of those questions and graph each one. For example, are
you left or right handed. Students will learn how to apply data into a graph. It will be a fun moving
around, socializing within each other but working on the assignment at the same time. Then they will
have to tally for each category to organize the game plan before drawing their graphs.
It will allow them to be creative either between a circle and bar graph, move around in the classroom,
and learn to ask questions with their classmates

I will pass out 10 questions paper which are:

-are you left or right handed
-which season do you prefer summer or winter
-are your eyes colored or brown
-do you like dogs or cats better
-how old are you 7 or 8
-do you like to play soccer or basketball
-do you like English or math best
-are you a morning or evening person
-do you like blue or red
-do you speak another language, yes or no
Then they will tally the number for either side. They shall organize themselves before starting the
graph. Then they will compare and contrast and see how many actually fall into each category. Then
with the graph they will have a choice to do a bar or a circle graph. While doing the graph they can
use colors to be creative, and make a key-map to understand the graph.
Assessment- REQUIRED

Each graph should be similar and have the total to how many kids are in the classroom. Students
have to write 3-4 sentences on comparison between their classmates. Share their thoughts on
whether if they liked it or not the assignment. Why they choose the graphing they did. I will check the
key to see if they color coded correctly.

Modifications- RECOMMENDED once you have your own class you would need to include this
information for your students.
Modifications are ways a teacher could adapt this plan to teach special audiences, such as students
with learning disabilities, gifted and talented children, or English language learners. It is not necessary
to suggest modifications to your plan, but it is helpful to teachers with diverse classrooms.
If you provide modifications:
Explain what audience the modifications are intended for.
List specific activities for this audience, and provide or link to any special resources needed.
If possible or necessary, explain how the teacher can adapt classroom management strategies to
use this plan with multiple audiences at the same time.
Provide alternative assessments in the field below.
Alternative assessments-RECOMMENDED once you have your own class you will need to
include this information for your students.
Alternative assessments are means of assessment for special audiences, such as students with
learning disabilities or English language learners.
If you provided modifications above, provide an alternative assessment for each modification or
special audience.
If you did not provide modifications above, explains what audience this alternative assessment is
intended for.

Supplemental information- RECOMMENDED- THINK SUBSTITUTE!

I would recommend a teacher to show a video of different types of graphs then the students can have
a better understanding of the different charts and how they can incorporate each graph with different
information. There are some specific graphs that should be use with certain collected data to
represent the concept better. It allows the student to get a visual of the many graphs there are to use
and why. After learning about this they can carry it with future situations that they can use for math,
science or data base in the real world.

Be as generous as you can! Remember that beginning teachers will not have your experience or
knowledge of available resources and will benefit from any additional help you provide.

Critical vocabulary- RECOMMENDED

Critical vocabulary includes words and terms that students need to know in order to meet the learning
outcomes for this lesson plan. If modifications are provided for particular audiences (such as English
language learners), a special vocabulary list may be provided here.
For each term, please provide a definition or the URL of a website where teachers can obtain
definitions.

Comments-RECOMMENDED
Comments may include anything you think teachers should know or consider that doesnt fit into the
other parts of the lesson plan. They may include:
an explanation of how you developed the plan, or why you wrote it in a particular way
possible extensions or ways to shorten the plan
reflections on the experience of teaching this lesson
students comments or reactions

A note on attachments:
You may have supplemental materials that you want to include with your lesson plan such as
worksheets, tests, handouts, and spreadsheets, even images. Dont hesitate to submit these with
your lesson plan. Just be sure to send them in formats that can be easily opened and dont require
any unusual software.
If possible, we will reformat all lesson plan content for display on the web, and make it available for
separate download only if absolutely necessary.
