9th Grade Poetry Unit Project

The purpose of this project is to check your mastery of our extensive poetry unit that weve
completed over the last three weeks. This will be an assessment grade, which counts for forty
percent of your quarterly total. Please be sure to follow all criteria, and ask questions if need be.
Use the critiques youve received to polish your poetry.

The selection of poems are: Recipe, Diamante, Limerick, and Concrete

You should have an organizer filled out from your third poetry packet with your two selections
as well as drafts of the two to use for your final drafts.

You must also include different literary and poetic devices within your poems, and demonstrate
them with some form of digital labeling. You will need to include:

-An example of simile5 points

-An example of metaphor5 points
-An example of alliteration5 points
-An example of a literary device of your choice5 points
-An example of rhyme5 points
-An example of rhythm5 points
For every extra use of the device, that is labeled, you will receive an extra half point.

You will also need to write a short paragraph discussing the tone and style of your poetry
book. 5 points

All assignments should first be planned and completed on separate worksheets, then typed on
your netbooks. The entire project must be typed (unless prior arrangements have been made).
Any part that is hand written will cause your overall grade to drop. Wasting your time in class
means you will receive even less time to finish the project. All poetry must be tasteful and
appropriate (no violence, drugs, sexual content, etc.). Any violations will bring your grade down
