Infosys Placement Paper-III

1. ANS:B

For problems like this, just find the 3rd root of the number. For ex:
consider 3 balls, u can find the heavier by just weighing 2 balls, so min = 1.
consider 9 balls, divide them into 3 equal groups, now u can weigh 2 groups to
find the group in which the heavier ball lies, and u ll be left with 3 and u
know how to find out of 3. so its 3 pow 2 = 9, then 3 pow 3 = 27...... 3 pow 8 =
6561. So the ans Is 8

2.ANS: C

time=distanc/speed.
let distance be x miles.
difference in time is 2hrs
x/20 - x/30= 2
3x - 2x =120
x=120 miles. speed=120/5=24miles/hr

3.ANS: D

When u reverse the digits of age of father u will get the age of son.
10x + y = father's age
10y + x = son's age
:
one year ago the age of father was twice that of son's age.
10x + y - 1 = 2(10y + x - 1)
10x + y - 1 = 20y + 2x - 2
10x - 2x = 20y - y - 2 + 1

8x = 19y - 1
x = y -
Only one set of single digit integers will satisfy this equation
y = 3; x = 7
:
what are the current ages of father and son?
Dad is 73, son is 37
:
Check one year ago
Dad is 72, son is 36, half Dad's age

4.ANS: B

if you take 3 * 4 * 5 * 7, you will get 420

since that is less than 500, that's your number.
it's divisible by 3 or 4 or 5 or 7 because those are the factors that were used
to make it up.

5.ANS: C

let x and y quantities of A and B respectively are mixed

x+y=40
his total selling price.....40*6=240
his cost price ..............180 approx(as he makes 33.5 % profit)
5x+3y=180
solving u get x=30 and y=10
hence ans 30 pounds

6.ANS:C

Here the difference between the consecutive terms is increase by 2

5 - 2 = 3,

10 - 5 = 5,

17 - 10 = 7,

then 17 + 9 = 26.
7.ANS:C

Here the difference between the consecutive terms is multiplied by 4.

The difference of the two consecutive numbers is 5, 20, .....

5 4 = 20

20 4 = 80

26 + 80 = 106.

8.ANS:B

Here the difference between the two consecutive terms is 19, 38, 57, 76

58 + 57 = 115

9.ANS:A

Here the series is a multiplication series.

The order of the multiplication is 5, 4, 3, 2

120 2 = 240

10.ANS:B

First difference is 6 and second is 12.

But if we take third as 18, then fourth difference will be 24.

Then 93 can not be the last term.

So we have to take the difference as 6, 12, 24 and 48.

So 21 + 24 = 45.

Justification:

The given information can be analysed as follows :

Let 'O' denote optional and 'C' denote compulsory .

A B C D E F

History C C C O - -
Physics - - - - C O

Mathematics - - O - O C

English O - - C - -

Chemistry - O - - - -

One compulsory subject of F is Mathematic. F has Physics as one of the subjects.

So, Physics is optional of F. F has Mathematics as optional and Physics as one
subject.
So, Physics is the compulsory subject of E. A and D have the same subjects --
History and English. D has History as optional subject and so English is the
compulsory subject of D. Subjects of A and D are reverse in regard of optional
and compulsory.
So, A has History as compulsory subject and English as optional.
Chemistry is the optional subject of only one teacher. So, it is the optional of
B, which only remains.
We know that History is the compulsory subject of three teachers. So, it is
compulsory for A, B and C.
D is the teacher having English as her compulsory subject.
So, D is the only female teacher.

Clearly, E has the same subject combination as that of F.
