General Rule— Cite cases by giving the surname of the parties, the volume of the report title, and page of reports, and the year of promulgation in parenthesis. Abbreviate versus or contra as v. When used in the text, underscore the title of the case (if printed, italicize); and place the source or citation in the footnote. If case is cited in the footnote, use regular roman or ordinary type. Example: Reyes v. Tinga, 255 Phil. 88 (1989). 1.1.1. If two or more actions are considered in one decision, cite only the first listed. Do not use “et al” or other terms to indicate omitted parties. 1.1.2. Ifone case has two different names, use the one listed first. Do not include any party's designation such as plaintiff, defendant, appellant, appellee, petitioner, respondent, intervenor, administrator, executor or trustee. 1.2. Exceptions 1.2.1.
