BABY ERD no.

1/ DEADLINE: 7 AUGUST 2017/

FOCUS: SCIENTIFIC METHOD & EXPERIMENT VARIABLES/
TITLE: ANALYZING THE EFFECTS OF WATER CONTAMINANTS ON THE GERMINATION OF
Vigna radiata SEEDS

GOAL: Come up with an all original VIDEO BLOG showing the results
of an ERD wherein you have applied your knowledge on the Scientific
Method & Experiment Variables.
ROLE: Pretend that you are a Researcher from the Department of
Agriculture tasked to investigate the effects of polluted water on the
growth of food crops.
AUDIENCE: The people who will watch your Video Blogs are your
fellow experts at the Department of Science & Technology (DOST)
and Department of Agriculture (DA), investors and farmers from
Farming Cooperatives from different parts of the country
SCENARIO: You are a Researcher who was tasked to research on the
effects of water contaminants (pollutants) on the germination of
seeds of food crops. You will conduct an experiment testing if
detergent run offs and oil in the sewage would slow down or
terminate the germination (seed growth) of mongo seeds.
IDENTIFY: INDEPENDENT VARIABLE, DEPENDENT VARIABLE, and
CONSTANT VARIABLES, EXPERIMENTAL SET UP & the CONTROL
SET UP. Pretend that you are supposed to present your research data
to the DOST & Department of Agriculture.
Tips: 3 identical containers, 30 mongo seeds each
Soak the seeds (15 hours), research on the techniques for soaking, only
water is involved hereno soil please
One container should receive a contaminant/ pollutant: used cooking oil
Another container will receive: detergent-water
The amount of contaminant/ pollutant in each container should be
equal/ the same
The other container serves as your Control variable
Observe, count & record what you will see in the outcome
THIS EXPERIMENT CAN BE DONE IN ONLY 1 WEEKEND
PRODUCTS:
1. VIDEO BLOG
The video should show the following: Observation (preliminary), your Hypotheses, how
you performed the EXPERIMENT (procedure & materials), state your CONCLUSION
(final findings & indicate if there was any proof to your hypotheses) and include
KNOWLEDGE SHARING (state to whom this research will be useful for & what other
researchers can do to improve your procedure). In short there should be an OHECKs in
your video.
It would be BEST IF YOULL HAVE ONLY 1 VIDEO (MAXIMUM 5 MINUTES ONLY,
MINIMUM 3 MINUTES). If your video will be too long, I will only watch & give a score
for the first 5 minutes)
IF you still do not know HOW TO LOOP VIDEOS together, you can have a MAXIMUM OF 3
videos (2 MINUTES EACH ONLY!)
2. PICTURE COMPILATION
You should be in the pictures, these will serve as evidence that you really did perform the
activity. 3 short white bond papers:
1st paper = 4 pictures of you while preparing your experiment set up/
2nd paper = 4 pictures of you observing your set up/
3rd paper = pictures of you while making the video blogs, ask someone at home to
assist you with this.
The quality & neatness of this Picture Compilation will also be recorded as your FINAL
QUIZ for the 1st Quarter.

STANDARDS:
Your scores will be based on how understandable is your results presentation in the
final Video blog. The variables should be properly identified, the OCHECKs flow should
be clear and the NUMERICAL results should be presented in CHART & GRAPH FORM in
the video itself.
