CHAPTER 4 & 5:
Financial Statements Analysis & The Management Working Capital
Assessment weightage: 10%

Financial Statements Analyses are to identify companys strength as well as its weakness by using
financial ratios whilst the management working capital reflects the net amount of funds required
to support routine operation of a business. The evaluations enable financial statement users to
make informed decisions about a company.

Instructions:

1. Do this assignment individually or in a group of two.

2. Choose one Malaysian Company / Malaysian Public Listed Companies that listed on Bursa
Malaysia (please choose different company than others).
3. Search for its ANNUAL REPORT for the financial year ended 2016 and download.
4. Find:
a. Background of the company
b. Statement of Profit or Loss / Income Statement / Comprehensive Income
c. Statement of Financial Position / Balance Sheet
5. Using trend analysis, evaluate the companys increase and decrease of financial
position. Analysis results should include amounts and percentage. The base year selected
is year 2015.
6. Using ratio, analyze and write your evaluation of your chosen company for the following
information:
a. Ability to pay its maturing obligations [8m]
b. Ability to efficiently manage the companys operation [10m]
c. Ability to generate income within specific duration [18m]
d. The companys management net working capital [3m]
7. Your evaluation must be supported by appropriate financial ratios/formula. Show the
calculation for each financial analysis and explain the results.
