Course Description:
Mathematics is a science and a universal language that helps us understand reality. It
makes an important contribution to a persons intellectual development, thereby shaping
the construction of his or her identity. Its mastery is a significant asset when carving out a
place for oneself in a society that benefits from its many practical applications. It also
remains essential for students who wish to continue their education in certain fields.

Students will be evaluated on 2 competencies in math:

Competency 1: Solves a situational problem (30%)


Competency 2: Uses mathematical reasoning (70%)

3 ring binder with paper and dividers
pencils/pens/erasers
ruler

Evaluation Outline:
Tests: Tests will be announced several days in advance and sufficient review will be done
in class the day(s) prior

Quizzes: There will be a short, weekly/biweekly quiz covering the current material.

Homework: Homework will be distributed daily. You are expected to do your best to
complete this. Extra help is always available. You will also be required to do one
homework assignment per unit. Assignments must be handed in on time or a 10%
deduction will be applied each day. After the 3rd day, a ZERO will be given.

Final Exam: A comprehensive final exam will be administered at the end of the year for
each of the 2 competencies each worth 50% of each competency in term 3.

Attendance:
It is expected you will be in class every day. Attendance is necessary for success. You are
expected to catch up on any work missed. If you miss a quiz or test, be prepared to write it
as soon as you return to class.

Support:
Extra help is always available. It is your responsibility to ask for it and to set up a
convenient time for necessary help
