Important Information:
What a great first few days back! The students did a

great job getting back into the swing of things. Thank you
parents for getting them to school on time and ready to learn.
September is already packed with events and
beginning of the year testing. The TRC reading window will be
opening on September 11th. Students will also soon be taking
the Beginning of Grade Test (BOG). Weekly homework and
spelling will begin starting the week of the 11th. Please make
sure your child is keeping up with his/her reading, math, and
spelling homework.
In reading, we will be covering how to use
information gained from illustrations, maps, and pictures
to demonstrate understanding of different texts. We
will also be working on describing characters and how to
explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of
events in a story.
Our math topics for the month will include place
value to the hundred thousandths place and addition and
subtraction to 1,000. This will also include patterns in
the addition table and properties of operations.
Writing will consist of informative and
explanatory texts. While in science and social studies,
we will be learning about the purpose of Labor Day and
force and motion.
Contrary to K-2, grades will be entered in the
gradebook on a 10 point grading scale this year. Please
expect for your student to come home with percentage
grades on his/her school work and report cards.
