How It Works
Senergy’s Solar Tracker starts out
the day facing west - - - from the
evening before. As the sun rises in the
east, it heats the unshaded west-side
canister on the Tracker, forcing liquid
R22 HCFC refrigerant into the shaded
east-side canister. As liquid moves
through the sealed copper tube to the
east-side canister, the balance changes,
rotating the Tracker to face the east.
Heating of the Tracker’s liquid is
controlled by aluminum shadow plates
positioned as "wings" on the outside
edges of the tracker. When one canister
is exposed to the sun more than the
other, vapor pressure increases. This

rely on drive motors, gears, clutches, high-tolerance
pistons, electronics, batteries, or sun sensors. The Solar
Tracker Rack derives its tracking motion with a simple,
elegant design that uses the sun's heat to move liquid
through a sealed system integrated into its structure. As
liquid moves from one side of the rack to the other, gravity
causes it to rotate and follow the sun.
In contrast to electro-mechanical tracking systems, the
Solar Tracker Rack eliminates high torque stress delivered
near the frame's axle, relying instead on the modest weight
differential applied by gravity as the systems liquid moves
to the frame edges. And unlike bolt-together trackers, Solar
Tracker Racks have welded frames that will not loosen
even after prolonged periods of wind buffeting. All Tracker
Rack joints are welded or silver soldered, and none of the
parts flex or bend. Because there is little to wear out, these
passive solar trackers require virtually no maintenance
beyond seasonal north-south axis adjustments, paint
touch-up, and annual bearing lubrication.
The Solar Tracker Rack is guaranteed for 10 years,
comes in 6 standard sizes for holding 2 to 16 modules, and
accommodates most PV modules. Call for exact

the liquid causes the rack to rotate until
the canisters are equally shaded. This
keeps the Tracker focused on the sun,
as it continually keeps the weight within
the canisters as equal as possible.
As the sun moves across the sky,
the rack follows (at approximately 15
degrees per hour), always seeking
equilibrium as liquid moves from one
side of the Tracker to the other to keep
it facing the direct rays of the sun.
The Tracker completes its daily
cycle facing west. It remains in this
position overnight, until it is awakened
by the heat of the rising sun the following
morning.
