Nano Particle
Nanoparticles are particles between 1 and
100 nanometres (nm) in size

Ultrafine particles are the same as

nanonoparticles and between 1 and 100 nm in
size

Fine particles are sized between 100 and 2,500

nm

Coarse particles cover a range between 2,500

and 10,000 nm.

Ex: Titanium dioxide (Tio2) & Silicon

dioxide (Sio2)
Nano Concrete

A concrete made with Portland cement particles that are less

than 500nm as a cementing agent.
Currently cement particle sizes range from a few nano-meters to
a maximum of about100 micro meters.

Procedure for preparation of
Nano particles
1. Titanium dioxide (TiO2)
2. Silicon dioxide (SiO2)
Steps for preparing Titanium dioxide (TiO2)

1. Take 100ml Distilled water.

2. Titanium Tetra Chloride (TICL4) solution kept in Refrigerator to cooling @-5C

3. Add 25ml TICL4 solution in Ice cool bath

4. Solution released Exothermic Temperature

5. The beaker was taken from Ice cool to room temperature by using magnetic
stirring @ 500 RPM

6. Then Bath temp was raise to Room temp and was kept at 100 C.

Then the solution was converted into Thick like Juice .

Steps for preparing Silicon dioxide (SiO2)
1. TEOS was added to acetic acid, CH3COOH with distilled water as the solvent.
2. The aging time in the experiments was set to 2, 4 and 6 hours. The resulting
colloidal sol then was centrifuged and washed with ethanol and then it was
centrifuged again.
3. Then, the resulting precipitate was dried at 60 C for 1 day.
4. The second parameter, the calcination temperature was varied between 600 C and
700 C at a holding time of 1 hour and 30 minutes in order to produce white silica
nano powder.
Table :Reagents compositions
Reagent Amount Number of moles

1. TEOS 18 ml 0.086
2. Distilled water 6.4 ml 0.360
3. Acetic acid 36 ml 0.600
4. Ethanol 20 ml -
Characteristics
1. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM)
1. Scanning Electron Microscopy was employed to determine the surface morphology and shape of the
silica particles.
2. The characterization was carried out at an operating voltage of 30 kV and a magnification of 5000X.
3. The sample for SEM analysis is prepared by dropping, a known amount of silica suspension on to a
glass plate and allowed to dry at room temperature (25C).

2.Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)

1. FTIR spectroscopy was used to find the functional groups present in the synthesized nanoparticles.
2. The bonding between the atoms and the presence of functional group on the surface of the particles
are analyzed using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy

3.Dynamic Light Scattering

1. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) is method to measure the size of Nano particles by estimating the
diffusion of the particles in suspension form.
2. The Brownian motion of particles or molecules in suspension causes laser light to be scattered at
different intensities
Various Tests for Nano Concrete
