INTRODUCTION
GREETING
The Love of God covers all. The love of God covered the people of Israel,
so that the angel of death passed over them. Paul reminds us that love is The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of
the fulfilling of (or covers) the law. Jesus teaches us to love other the Holy Spirit be with you all!
Christians by calling them to repent, and to love the unrepentant as people And also with you!
needing Gods love all the more. Today Miriam Eliana Evinsky receives a
sign of the comprehensive love of God in holy baptism. With Miriam Eliana
now we join in proclaiming Gods love in Christ to all the world.

PRAYER UPON ENTERING THE PEW

Almighty God, your Holy Spirit equips the church with a rich variety of
gifts. Grant that we may use them to bear witness to Christ in lives that are
built on faith and love. Make us ready to live the gospel and eager to do
your will, so that we may share with all your church in the joys of eternal
life; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

PRAYER OF THE DAY
O Lord God, enliven and preserve your church with your perpetual mercy.
Without your help, we mortals will fail; remove far from us everything that
is harmful, and lead us toward all that gives life and salvation, through
Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.

A MESSAGE FOR OUR CHILDREN
FIRST READING: Exodus 12:1-14
A reading from Exodus.
Israel remembered its deliverance from slavery in Egypt by celebrating the
festival of Passover. This festival featured the Passover lamb, whose blood
was used as a sign to protect Gods people from the threat of death. The
early church described the Lords supper using imagery from the Passover,
especially in portraying Jesus as the lamb who delivers Gods people from
sin and death.

The LORD said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt: 2This month shall
mark for you the beginning of months; it shall be the first month of the year
for you. 3Tell the whole congregation of Israel that on the tenth of this
month they are to take a lamb for each family, a lamb for each
household. 4If a household is too small for a whole lamb, it shall join its
closest neighbor in obtaining one; the lamb shall be divided in proportion to
the number of people who eat of it. 5Your lamb shall be without blemish, a
year-old male; you may take it from the sheep or from the goats. 6You shall
keep it until the fourteenth day of this month; then the whole assembled
congregation of Israel shall slaughter it at twilight. 7They shall take some of
the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in
which they eat it. 8They shall eat the lamb that same night; they shall eat it
roasted over the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. 9Do not eat
any of it raw or boiled in water, but roasted over the fire, with its head, legs,
and inner organs. 10You shall let none of it remain until the morning;
anything that remains until the morning you shall burn. 11This is how you
shall eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in
your hand; and you shall eat it hurriedly. It is the passover of
the LORD. 12For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night, and I will
strike down every firstborn in the land of Egypt, both human beings and
animals; on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am
the LORD. 13The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live:
when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and no plague shall destroy you
when I strike the land of Egypt.
14This day shall be a day of remembrance for you. You shall celebrate it
as a festival to the LORD; throughout your generations you shall observe it
as a perpetual ordinance.

PSALM: PSALM 149 adultery; You shall not murder; You shall not steal; You shall not covet;

11Besides this, you know what time it is, how it is now the moment for
you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we

The obligation of Christians is to love one another and so fulfill the heart
and goal of the law. Clothes make the person as we put on the Lord Jesus
Christ and live today in light of the future God has in store for us.

listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may

refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to
listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a Gentile and a tax
collector. 18Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in
heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. 19Again,
truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will
be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three are
gathered in my name, I am there among them.

HOLY BAPTISM
PRESENTATION
Miriam Eliana, her sponsors, and her parents gather with the ministers at
the font. The assembly is seated.
God, who is rich in mercy and love, gives us a new birth into a living hope
through the sacrament of baptism. By water and the Word God delivers us
from sin and death and raises us to new life in Jesus Christ. We are united
with all the baptized in the one body of Christ, anointed with the gift of the
Holy Spirit, and joined in God's mission for the life of the world.
Sponsors present Miriam Eliana:
I present Miriam Eliana for baptism.
The presiding minister addresses parents or others who bring for baptism
children who are not able to answer for themselves:
Called by the Holy Spirit, trusting in the grace and love of God, do you
desire to have Miriam Eliana baptized into Christ?
Response: I do.
As you bring Miriam Eliana to receive the gift of baptism, you are
entrusted with responsibilities:
to live with her among God's faithful people,
bring her to the word of God and the holy supper,
teach her the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments,

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, Gods only Son, our Lord, who was conceived
by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius
Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at
the right hand of the Father, and he will come to judge the living and
the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of
saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life
everlasting.
Let us pray for Miriam Eliana, along with all the baptized everywhere:

Lord, in your mercy,
hear our prayer.
Into your hands, O Lord, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in
your mercy, through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
And let us pray: Blessed are you, holy God. You are the creator of the
waters of the earth. You are the fire of rebirth. You poured out your Spirit
on your people Israel. You breathe life into our dry bones. Your Son Jesus
promised to send the Spirit to us that the world may know your peace and
truth.
Pour out your Holy Spirit, and breathe new life into those who are here
baptized. By your Spirit adopt us all as your children, through our Savior
Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and forever. Amen.

Blessed be God, the source of all life, the word of salvation, the spirit of
mercy.

We give you thanks, O God, that through water and the Holy Spirit you
give your daughters and sons new birth, cleanse them from sin, and raise
them to eternal life.
Laying both hands on the head of the newly baptized, the minister prays for
Miriam:
Sustain Miriam Eliana with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of
wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of
knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both
now and forever. Amen.
The presiding minister marks the sign of the cross on the forehead of the
baptized. Oil prepared for this purpose may be used. As the sign of the
cross is made, the minister says:
Miriam Eliana, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and
marked with the cross of Christ forever. Amen.
A baptismal garment and a lighted candle may be given to the newly
baptized (to a sponsor of a young child) as a representative of the
congregation says:
In Christ Jesus we are all children of God through faith. Those who have
been baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ.
Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.
The ministers and the baptismal group face the assembly. A representative OFFERING PRAYER

John Chrysostom, Bishop of Constantinople, died 407
Wednesday, September 13, 2017
John was a priest in Antioch and an outstanding preacher. His eloquence
earned him the nickname "Chrysostom" ("golden mouth"). Appointed
bishop of Constantinople, seat of the empire, he criticized corruption in the
court. As a result, he was exiled by the empress.
