CLINICAL SESSIONS LABORATORY SESSIONS

SESSION I: Preliminary Impressions

Preliminary impressions are made using plastic dentate stock 1. Pour preliminary casts
trays and irreversible hydrocolloid (alginate) impression 2. Fabrication of custom impression trays
material. The stock trays are modified with utility rope wax to
stimulate edentulous stock impression trays.
Impressions are made with irreversible hydrocolloid
impression material. Ideally, there should be fullness to
the borders of the impression, no voids present in the
impression, no exposure of the

SESSION II: Final Impressions

1. Evaluate/ adjust custom trays 1. Developing master casts

2. Border mold custom trays 2. Construction of stabilized, hard record bases and occlusal
3. Once the tray has been border molded, the final impression is rims
made with a low viscosity impression material- either low
viscosity VPS or low viscosity polysulfide impression
material

SESSION III: Maxillomandibular Relations

The student will use stabilized record bases with baseplate wax 1. Mounting of master casts on a semi-adjustable articulator
occlusion rims. The sequencing of procedures for MMR that is using the face bow transfer and CR registration
taught in the pre-clinical course is as follows: 2. Arrangement of teeth
1. Contour the maxillary occlusion rim for proper
lip and cheek support
2. Adjust the mandibular occlusion rim to the VDO
3. Register centric relation
4. Take face bow transfer
5. Select teeth

SESSION IV: Clinical try-in of the trial dentures

The student and the instructor should perform verification of the 1. Sealing of the trial dentures
esthetics, the phonetics, the vertical dimension of occlusion and 2. Investing
the centric relation occlusion. Any minor discrepancies in the 3. Processing
orientation of the teeth should be corrected during the session. Equilibration
1. Check CR 4. Polishing
2. Check VDO
3. Adjust posterior guidance of articulator/
re-evaluate occlusion
4. Carve posterior palatal seal

SESSION V: Denture Insertion

Delivery of the complete dentures should involve the following ----

steps:
1. Check for areas of overextension and over compression
2. Evaluate the labial, buccal and lingual notches to ensure
no impingement of the frena.
3. Perform a clinical remount.
4. Give home-care instructions
5. Confirm time of the first post-insertion appointment on
the following day. The student should have scheduled a
24- hour post-insertion appointment at the same time the
delivery appointment was scheduled. This post
insertion appointment should be followed by a second
post-insertion appointment, scheduled within one week
from the delivery appointment.
