Answers should be crisp and to the point

Q1. Draw the work spaces of all possible combinations of manipulator using T, V, and R joints. Comment
on these workspaces [6]

Q2. There is a need of Automation of vacuum furnace. Heat treatment of a specific metal requires high
temperature at below atmospheric pressure. A furnace is designed for this purpose, having vacuum
pump and heating element. The heating element can be turn ON only in two conditions. First, when the
door is closed, vacuum pump is ON, temperature is low and pressure below atmospheric level. Second,
when the door is open, irrespective of the temperature, vacuum pump is OFF and pressure at
atmospheric level. There are sensors to detect vacuum pump, pressure, temperature, and door status.
All these status are defined in the form of binary signals. Following conditions are defined as "High"
for the sensor signals, Door closed, Vacuum pump ON, Atmospheric pressure, High Temperature,
Heating element ON. Other values of the sensors are considered as Low. Prepare a truth table for
heating coil as the output and reduce it in to a gate diagram. [6]

Q3. The armature controlled DC motor has the following ratings: K T= 0.09 Nm/A, Maximum current=2.2
amp, speed=500 rev.p.m., Armature resistance= 1.5 , Frictional torque= 0.012 Nm. Determine
followings,
(i) Max. torque on motor shaft at present speed [1]
(ii) Max. mechanical power output at above condition [1]
(iii) Max. armature voltage [1]
(iv)Value for no-load speed of motor, in rpm [1]
(v) Stall torque on motor shaft [1]
(vi)Decrease in no-load speed due to friction [1]

Q4. Prepare ladder logic for operation of a motor. When the motor is over hearted, it should stop and
restart after 30 second. If such tripping of motor happens three times, a sound alarm is to be
energized. The sound alarm should only be de-energized by a hand press button, which ensures the
operators attention to the process. In addition, while the motor is running, a green bulb is required to
glow otherwise a red one. Consider all inputs and buttons as push buttons. [7]

Q5. Prepare a pneumatic circuit for operating a pneumatic lift incorporating the interlocking for the up and
down push buttons of the circuit. Use two separate valves for up and down motion. [7]
