Introduction

PTCL is a leading provider of telecom voice and data services within


Pakistan. As part of its continuing infrastructure developments, PTCL has
embarked upon a major investment program in the Network Operations
Center (NOC).A network operations center (NOC) is a place from which
administrators supervise, monitor and maintain a telecommunications
network. Large enterprises with large networks as well as large network
service providers typically have a network operations center, a room
containing visualizations of the network or networks that are being
monitored, workstations at which the detailed status of the network can be
seen, and the necessary software to manage the networks. The network
operations center is the focal point for network troubleshooting, software
distribution and updating, router and domain name management,
performance monitoring, and coordination with affiliated networks.

Infrastructure

In PTCL environments, NOCs are responsible for monitoring power


failures, communication line alarms (such as bit errors, framing errors, line
coding errors, and circuits down) and other performance issues that may
affect the network, and in telecom sector have to track details about the call
flow.The much awaited centralization of PTCL Network Operations is here
with the establishment of state of art Network Operations Center at
Islamabad. PTCL NOC is a centralized network management system with
fault resolution capability, fully capable of proactive identification and
resolution of faults through real-time network monitoring.The purpose of
this newly established Network Operations Center is to control, monitor and
manage the entire PTCL network, and to enhance and optimize Network
Management through a transparent and centralized platform.The Network
Operations Center also helps to create a highly available, adaptable and fault
resilient network that can meet the market demands and ensure customer
satisfaction.This Network Operation Center, once fully operational, will not
only be used to diversify the services and customer base to increase revenues
but will also increase accountability and transparency through escalation
policies and maintenance of secure activity logs.

Swot Analysis
Now we move towards the most important part of the internship report the SWOT
analysis after working 2 month in the company I find some critical issues about PTCL.
After carefully analyzing these true issues of an organization now I am able to understand
the organization in right way so at the end of my report I will go for SWOT analysis of
PTCL.

STRENGTH
PTCL enjoy monopoly
State of the Art International Gateway Exchanges & Satellite Earth Stations
Large earnings
Good quality international connectivity
Customer Base of over 4 million
Government support
PTCL (Ufone) is market challenger in GSM segment.
Ufone is performing well though Warid, Telennor, Mobilink and Zong are tough
Access Network & Customer Base of over 04 millions

5.2 Weaknesses

Not been able to nurture its growth around customer services oriented strategy.
Internal organizational and business issues.
Monopolistic culture has further added to complexities.
Ptcl-v, the fixed wireless phone service is poor.
Over employment & low productivity.
Slow decision making including external interferences.
Corporate culture akin to Government department.
Image Lack of customer focus

More aware and technology understanding consumer a base that is growing ata
fast rate.
Have vast infrastructure and real estate which can be leveraged further.
