PSIM - Simulation Software for Power Electronics and Motor Control

PSIM for Windows 98/NT/2000/XP (Network Version) - Quick Guide

Installing PSIM
Important: The installation of the PSIM network version on a Windows 95/98/NT/XP network must be performed
by the system administrator only.
To install the network version of PSIM, first dedicate a PC to run the PSIM hardlock server. This PC can be either
the network file server or any other PC connected to the network. Note that the hardlock key and the hardlock server
must be on the same PC, and this PC should remain on at all time.
1. Insert the PSIM CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, and the setup program should start automatically. If for some
reason the setup program does not start, go to the CD-ROM drive, and double click on setup.exe.
2. Follow the installation instructions. In order to access PSIM from other PCs on the network, PSIM must be
installed on a network drive, not on the local drive. To select a network drive, when choosing the destination
directory, select Browse... and Network.
3. On the Hardlock Device Driver Installation dialog window towards the end of the installation, click on Next to
install the hardlock driver. The software will not run if the hardlock driver is not properly installed.
4. Connect the hardlock key directly to the PC parallel port.
5. Install the hardlock server in the following steps:
In Windows NT/2000:
- Start the program hlsadmin.exe.
- Go to the Service menu and select Start. If the dialog window with the following message appears:
The SAP Agent is not installed on this machine. If you want to use HL-Server via IPX, you must install
it before starting the HL-Server Service.
Click on Start anyway. The dialog window with the following message will appear:
Do you want to start HL-Server service on the local machine?
Click on Yes.
- Click on the machine marked as local. From the Edit menu, choose Add Hardlock. In the dialog box, set
the module address to 11688.
In Windows 98:
- Run the command hls32 -m:11688 from the PSIM directory.
Note: You should type the complete command hls32 -m:11688 and run it either from a MS-DOS window,
or from the command line by clicking on the Start menu and selecting Run. You can not run the
command by simply double clicking on hls32.exe in Windows Explorer.

Simulating a Circuit
To simulate the sample circuit chop-1q.sch:
- Start PSIM by running PSIM.exe. Choose Open from the File menu to load the file chop-1q.sch.
- From the Simulate menu, choose Run Simulation. PSIM simulator will perform the simulation. After the
simulation, the waveform display program SIMVIEW will launch automatically.
- Once inside SIMVIEW, select curves for display.
