The table above shows the marks obtained by 40 students in a
monthly test. If the median mark is 16.5, find the values of a and b.
Hence, state the modal class.
(b) The mean of a set of data which consists of 5 numbers is 20. When a
number x is added to the set of data, the new mean is 21. Find the
value of x.

(c) A set of numbers arranged in descending order is 17, x, y, z, 8, 2. Given

the mean, mode and median are 11, 15, 12 respectively. Find the
values of x, y and z.

(d) The mean, the mode and the median of a set of 5 numbers are 52, 55
and 53 respectively. Find the mean, the mode and the median if each
of the number in the set is subtracted by 5 and multiplied by 2.

set of data is multiply by 4 and added by 1.

(c) A set of 6 numbers has a mean of 35 and a variance of 40. If a number is added to the set of data, the mean is 45, find the number added to the
data and the variance of the new set of data.
