2.0 OPERATIONAL CONTROL
2.6.1 ISOLATION PLANT AND EQUIPMENT
At CBH, we isolate plant and equipment before it is
inspected, repaired, maintained or cleaned, to ensure
the safety of those doing the work.
STANDARD
Our minimum standard for
isolation of plant and equipment
is that:
No-one should perform
isolations on plant and
equipment unless authorised.
The 8 steps of isolation,
tag and lockout must be
undertaken for each item
of plant or equipment, as
follows:
1. Identify all energy sources
and hazards;
2. Shut down the plant;
3. De-energise all energy
sources;
4. Isolate and lock out all
energy sources;
5. Control other potential
hazards;
6. Tag plant controls, energy
sources and other potential
hazards;
7. Test by trying to re-activate
the plant; and
8. Remove locks and tags,
reactivate plant.
Workplace Health and Safety Standards
An authorised person is someone
who has undertaken the CBH
Isolation Plant and Equipment
training and deemed competent
upon completion.
CBH issue an Isolation Plant and
Equipment Kit for those who have
completed the training and been
deemed competent.
We isolate plant and equipment
to prevent the release of hazardous
energy (for example electricity,
mechanical, heat, hydraulic or
pneumatic).
Our life saving rule # 2 relates
to isolation plant and equipment.
CBH Group Isolation Plant and
Equipment training is available
either online or as classroom training.
