PREFACE

This report is a documentation of the 12 weeks Practical Training which is part of the Bachelor of
Mass Communication (Public Relations) programme at the International Islamic University Malaysia
(IIUM). I started this training on 12th of June and ended in 25th of August 2017.

This practical training allowed for an application of theoretical knowledge into real life situations. By
working in PasarTap for my training, I was exposed to a variety of activities and the nature of working
environment from different departments. This report highlights the activities done at these departments
during these 12 weeks.

Having gained this work experience allowed me to have even more maturity. I am certain that this
will be helpful when I shall be doing higher level subjects later at the University.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

with a much-needed knowledge that was useful for work.
INTRODUCTION
Purpose of Practical Training
Practical training is one of the important parts of the Bachelor of Mass Communication
programme. It gives an opportunity to understand how the concepts discussed in the course are
beneficial in the real world. Moreover, it allows one to observe how the procedures learnt are
actually put into practice. Eventually, it gives an opportunity to work on them, under the
supervision of a mentor and lecturer.

The purpose of practical training is to make one an industry ready professional. Besides
that, it allows exposure to various fields where political science students work. Furthermore, it
provides the opportunity to develop commitment to work and application of ones knowledge to
practical situations. Hence, it encourages us to improve ones technical and soft skills, get familiar
with professional work environment and develop ethical values.

Questions

1.1 Why you decide to be in PR/Broadcasting/Journalism/Organizational Communication?

The Chartered institute of Public Relations defines Public Relations as

Public Relations is about reputation - the result of what you do, what you say and what
others say about you. Public Relations is the discipline which looks after reputation, with
the aim of earning understanding and support and influencing opinion and behaviour. It
is the planned and sustained effort to establish and maintain goodwill and mutual
understanding between an organisation and its publics.

While in IIUM, I choose to specialize in Public Relations. There were many reasons why I
decided to study Public Relations, one of them was that I could see myself becoming a Public
Relations practitioner. I wanted to focus more on writing and connecting face-to-face with
people, which is the core essence of Public Relations.
Its versatility and flexibility in various situations was an opportunity I could not turn down. I
picked PR because it enables me to be imaginative, meet new people, travel and most of all,
write. I generally enjoyed each of these things and I wanted my ideal career would
incorporate a tad bit of everything.

1.2 Your perception about the field

In my opinion, the core of Public Relations is reputation, with the aim of understanding,
influencing opinion and behaviour. It focuses on establishing and maintain mutual
understanding between an organisation and its publics.

B. About the Organization

I did my internship at PasarTap. Though the name itself may sound unusual, the work that
goes behind is quite extraordinary.
