UEE WRITING DRILL:

PUT YOURSELF IN THE SHOE OF THE MARKER

BODY POINT 1

Beauty contests are competitions. Some types of competitions are good, but not beauty
competitions. Exposing children to compete in such young ages is inadequate since they could
grow up competing with others at everything. People who put children into these kind of contests
might do it for fame and fortune, make profit for themselves. Besides, the outfits in beauty
competitions sometimes are considered inappropriate for young girls and might create negative
impression on contestants.

BODY POINT 2

However, some critics may argue that capital punishment is a very necessary sentence to
establish a healthy society. The arguments dont seem to be right because people often have a
tendency to do things that they do. Particularly, capital punishment doesnt really see any
significant decreases in crime rate but they are increasing rapidly. The society can really be
affected by capital punishment because it can raise violence in some people due to what they
hear or watch. The security of the country can also be affected without a wise use of this type of
punishment.

BODY POINT 3

On the other hand, the application of capital punishments should be implemented to particular
sectors such as murders or objectors against governments. Admittedly, penalizing murders with
death would be proportionate to personal properties which are lives they take away from other
citizens. This would be the only efficient measure to regain the right of victims in homicide and
also to compensate the pain of relatives losing their beloveds. In addition, that offenders would
relapse into crime after being incarnated necessitates the execution of capital punishments.
Obviously, it is challenging to alter the characteristics of murders to become ethic citizens, which
means they would not offer any advantages to the society. According to 1985 study by Stephen
K.Layson in the University of North Carolina, one execution could deter 18 murders.

BODY POINT 4

Firstly, beauty pageants physical appearances can be compared to Barbie doll, which is usually
favourable by young children. Hence, how those attractive women become a role model of
youngster is easily understandable. In most competitions, competitors have to go through
personal interviews where they show the traits and how they empower people from their points
of view on different issues. Pageants use contests as a platform to embolden young girls to speak
up and raise awareness of certain issues and as a result, young children are usually empowered to
confidently believe in the person they could be. However, emotional and mental harm also takes
effect on these pageants. Beauty pageants teach children worth of a person is almost solely based
on appearance while women are much more than just looks, they deserve to be treated equally,
not to be judged at physically.

BODY POINT 5

However, I must agree that beauty pageants are bad if they are organized for children. Since
young kids are not mature enough to handle things like negative results the way adults can, they
might be more likely to become envious and too competitive, especially when young ages are the
period of their lives when their personalities are formed. Besides, having young kids focus too
much on their looks and judges could be significantly harmful. If a child is entering into this kind
of contest, they should be taught to have fun doing it.

BODY POINT 6

In beauty contests, women are judged on their physical appearance rather than on any other
qualities they may possess. When women want to be judged on intelligence and
accomplishments, but both of them are not seen as part of ideal femininity. As we know it, every
competition of every kind values certain qualities over others. In competitive sport, fitness and
strength are major determinants of success. Similarly, judging women on their beauty can be
accepted.

BODY POINT 7

First, the majority of these types of contests judges participants on their appearance, which does
not relate to their talent at all. A humans appearance depends too much on genes, which
cannot be decide by their own. It is not fair at all for those who were not born with some factors
that make them become beautiful. There are more important aspects like intelligence,
personality that worth considering, but are not included in the contests marking categories.
These might affect people awareness about true beauty, which could lead to changes in people
lifestyle and awareness. In Vietnam, more and more children are now affected by this lifestyle,
due to the lack of knowledge of them and also their parents. Students in grade 6, even 5 or 4,start
doing make up before going to school, result in a lack of seriousness in study environment. Risky
and dangerous plastic surgery, spa, drugs will be promoted, impacting not only their health, their
budget but also their families. Consequently, it also might lead to negative thoughts such as
judging the book by its cover, creating hostile relationship between people. The society cannot
develop with these thoughts.
