High efficiency of drilling is achieved due to application of adjustable DC drive.

System to control main units is made on the basis of microprocessing controllers. In
this case the system safety is increased by means of self-diagnostics. Choice of
optimum modes in the course of drilling as well as lifting and handling operations
makes it possible to reduce electric power consumption by 15%. Auxiliary drive
makes it possible to hoist the drill string in case of emergency power cut off from the
main power supply source using emergency diesel electric power supply station.
Drawworks is controlled by means of one handle joystick on the driller's remote
control panel. Folding self-elevating floor makes it possible to mount the equipment
at the drill floor at 3.4 m height. Reduction of time for mounting and dismounting
works as well as transportation is the main advantage of the new drilling rig
because main mechanisms are installed in modules with built-in road bridges.

Drawworks module

Drawworks module includes biaxial semitrailer with the following mounted

equipment:

Drawworks, auxiliary drive, stabilizer, rotary drive

?

?
and servicing site
Drawworks is powered by electric motor of the main drive which delivers rotation
to the main shaft of the gear transmission by means of gear clutch. Then via the gear
transmission, rotation is delivered to the countershaft and via the following gear
transmission to the hoisting shaft. In case of main drive failure drawworks may
operate with auxiliary drive. In this case rotation via chain transmission is delivered
to countershaft, installed in transmission.

One-speed drilling rig LBU-670ET1-M is equipped with the drum with thread for
28 mm diam. cable, gear transmission, DC motor of 1000kW, frame, Eaton 238DBB
parking plate brake at the hoisting shaft, second Eaton 215DBB small brake at the
intermediate shaft. At the countershaft of transmission there is a chain wheel to
deliver rotation from auxiliary drive. Connection of this shaft to the drive shaft of
transmission is performed manually with gear wheel. Switching mechanism is
installed outside in the transmission cover. To supply power to Eaton parking brake
air channel is provided. It is connected to compressor, and compressed-air cylinder
is provided for emergency unbraking.

The novelty of the drawworks is due to the lack of chain transmissions, tire-type
pneumatic clutches, electromagnetic or hydrodynamic brake, band brake and brake
lever, gear shift which are typical for traditional drawworks. Equipment and drive of
the drawworks module are remotely controlled from panel in the driller's cabin.
Auxiliary drive with asynchronous 55kW motor is connected to the chain
transmission of the drawworks. The module holds rotary drive of 1000kW DC motor
with gearing to the rotary table by means of drive shafts and angle countershaft. Two
auxiliary hydraulic drawworks are installed in the module. Shelter of the module is
made of three-layer panels. The module also holds site for maintenance of
mechanism fastening the fixed end of the drilling line.

Derrick

Derrick with open front edge is telescopic with two main sections, inclined,
hoisted in the running position by means of telescopic hydraulic cylinders. Useful
height of the derrick is 33m. Maximum static hook load is 240 tons in conformity with
the API standard. The derrick is equipped with 5x6 block-and-tackle system with
28mm diam. cable and is designed for operation of Varco top drive.

Derrick units are made of square pipes. Derrick structure is welded. Bottom
section of the derrick is supported by auxiliary Y shaped section with two hinge
bearings, connected to the ramp. The derrick includes a separately transported
derrick platform, mechanism to fasten fixed end of the drilling line, screw rods to
fasten the derrick to the ramp.

advanced top section of the derrick with manual drive are provided for derrick
telescoping. Fixation is indicated with light and sound alarm. In the operating
position the derrick has 3.5?slope. The inclined position is fixed with four load guys,
and wind loads are supported with four wind guys. Block-and-tackle system and the
rope are installed in the derrick module; reserve and excess of the rope is winded at
the rope drawworks with electric drive. Derrick module is transported at the biaxial
semitrailer by means of the truck tractor.

Drill floor module

Module of the drilling floor is folding, parallelogram and consists of rotary
transport module, side detachable platforms, load beams with pneumatic tackles of
12.5 tons, tank with funnel, metal top shelters of 0.6 m height, setbacks, soft cover of
the floor, preventers assembly facility, dolly and railway track for preventers,
transport unit in the form of biaxial dolly attached to the body of the transport rotary
module.

Left side block (control module) includes one of the hydraulic catheads and AKB-
4 drill tong control panel, second hydraulic cathead and AKB-4 drill tong are installed
at the transport module of the rotary table. Drill floor is lifted in the operating position
after installation of the specified components at the transport module of the rotary
table; moreover, the driller's cabin is mounted at the floor. Drill floor is lifted by means
of the block-and-tackle system with lifting straps. The floor is fixed in the operating
position by bolts in the top part of the floor and with side screw rods.

Drill pumps modules

Modules of drill pumps #1 and #2 include drill pumps UNBT-950L2 with drive
capacity of 950kW. These pumps differ from the previous modules due to L-shaped
hydraulic block, which makes for reducing voltage in borings crossings what
increases the useful life of the block. Lubricating and cooling systems of the piston-

MOBILE DRILLING RIGS

cylinder unit provides intense heat takeoff from friction surface and prevents air
inflow on the opposite side of the piston. The structure contains bimetallic bushings,
significantly increasing life of piston-cylinder block.
Application of a more powerful pump makes it possible to increase the travel
speed with increased pressure and to reduce drilling time. Besides the specified
equipment the module includes 1000kW DC motor, pump drive with four poly V-
belts, pumps piping, load beam with hand tackle. Module of pump #2 differs in its
right-hand installation of the V belt transmission and incorporation of high pressure
compressor to feed pneumatic compensators of high pressure.

All the equipment of the modules is mounted at biaxial semitrailers.

Mud circulation system

Mud circulation system consists of four modules with 50m3 tanks for drilling mud
and sludge trapping system. All modules of the mud circulation system contain
biaxial semitrailers of the same overall dimensions. When being assembled
modules are equipped with soft shelters at the frames which form general room at

CLUSTER
DRILLING
RIGS

Cluster drilling
rigs have
been
designed by
URBO-drilling
equipment
Ltd. and have
no analogues
abroad
Cluster drilling rigs are designed for cluster drilling of oil and gas wells with
rated drilling depth of 3200-6500 m. The rigs have the latest electric drive
providing gradual control of main rig components.

Design features of cluster drilling rigs are specified by cluster drilling which
became widespread in Western Siberia in the course of waterlogged areas
development due to roads impassability. Cluster drilling makes it possible to reduce
costs for rigging-up operations, engineering development of well sites, construction
of access roads to the field, as, in the course of drilling, the rigged-up equipment is
moved within the cluster. Equipment package for cluster drilling includes mobile
and fixed components, thus, only main part of the equipment for well drilling is
moved from one well to another one.

Lately the rigs of a new generation (EK-BM series) have been designed and
replaced the legendary rigs (3000EUK) which had been successfully operated
since 1978. They have some peculiar features, and first of all, block-modular
configuration. Such package of full factory readiness makes it possible to simplify
and to accelerate the first rig-up as well as to reduce time for mounting-dismounting
works when moving the drilling rig within the cluster.

The configuration of the drilling rigs reflects all main positive decisions proved by
the long-term experience of cluster drilling rigs operation at the fields of Western
Siberia. To create comfortable working environment, housing facilities of the drilling
rigs are equipped with heated floors, shelters and heating air-and-steam units with
the closed circulation system.

Main rig components are driven by electric motors of direct or alternating current
from industrial networks via SCR which allows to choose the optimum drilling mode
and to set up various combinations of rotary revolutions, drilling mud supply and bit
axial load.

As per the Customer's requirements it is possible to change the drilling rig

package in conformity with the specific operating conditions.

Drawworks

Drawworks LBU-900AS-2 is designed for lifting and lowering of the drilling tools,
lowering of casings, automated bit feed to the borehole, accidents elimination while
wells drilling, derrick hoisting and lowering.

Drawworks of AS series is the latest hoisting equipment which reflects new

tendencies in the world oil equipment manufacturing industry.

CLUSTER DRILLING RIGS

Novelty of the drawworks is specified by the lack of typical chain transmissions, tire-
type pneumatic clutches, electromagnetic and hydrodynamic brake, band brake and
braking handle.

The drawworks is equipped with electric drive of alternating current.

Due to the original structure and electric drive features, the drawworks has a very
simple and compact configuration.
Main features of the drawworks

? Multifunctional drive. Electric motor of the drawworks drive provides not only
hoisting but also the controlled lowering of the drill pipes and casings. It also
provides complete stoppage and holding of the load in the fixed position. Therefore,
the auxiliary brake is not required. While drilling, the motor functions as bit feed
controller. In case of emergency power supply cut-off, it is possible to hoist drill pipes
by means of the motor powered by diesel electric power station of partial capacity

? Control system provides total control of driving electric motors while hoisting,
lowering and intermediary modes, i.e. provides braking while hoisting and
acceleration while lowering

? Gear transmission consists of three gears which provide two speed levels at the
hoisting shaft: quick and slow. Quick gear provides lifting and lowering of drill
pipes and empty elevator. Slow gear provides lowering of heavy drill pipes and
casings and accidents prevention. Gear wheels are made of high-performance
steel, wheel gears have special strengthening parts

? Drive of disk brakes is pneumatic. Due to the fact that electric drive of the
drawworks functions as the brake, disc brake is used only to fix loads in the fixed
position

? Drum thread and ledges protection increase life time of the drilling line and
hoisting drum. The thread makes cable winding better and is made at special straps,
which are welded to the drum. When the thread is worn out, the straps may be
replaced. To protect ledges of the drum against wearing out, end straps made of
wear-resistant steel are provided

? Noncontact sealing of shafts makes it possible to prevent oil spills outside from
the transmission body

? Remote control creates comfort labor conditions for the driller. The driller may
operate in the sitting position. Gear shift from quick to slow is rarely performed
because in majority of cases all operation of the drilling string is performed at quick
gear
Derrick

The derrick has open front edge and is made of open profile.

Main components of the derrick sections are made of flat welded frames.
Back edge is made of beams of various cross-sections depending on the length
and loads. Main elements are made of low-alloyed steel. Elements are pin-jointed.

The derrick is designed for installation of block-and-tackle system, platform for

manual positioning of stalks, auxiliary equipment, positioning of drill pipes and drill
collars, drill bit, derrick emergency escape device and top drive system.

Derrick man's platform includes stalks storage facility and two sites (monkey
boards) with the heated floor.

Stalks storage facility is equipped with hinged latches installed at derrick man's
boards in the cross section with pins of the storage facility.

Central pins are equipped with connecting rods and block to swing the cable of
the auxiliary drawworks while handling loads at the catwalk. The drawworks to
handle drill collars is mounted at the platform.

The derrick is equipped with step ladders with tunnel fencing and gangways,
installed with 6 m interval which provides safe ascent. The derrick has site to
operate drill hose plug with manifold stands, device against dropping of drill pipes,
installed at the setback.

For crown block sheaves repair and auxiliary works, the derrick is equipped with
a gin pole.

Basement

The basement of derrick and drawworks block is the spatial structure, consisting
of load frames, ladders, fencing. Bottom part of the basement consists of two load
frames (left and right longerons), installed at the beams of the moving mechanism.

CLUSTER DRILLING RIGS

Beams of the moving mechanism also fix balance trucks, which make it possible to
move the basement by railings to the next well within the cluster. The railing
consists of 9m beams, which are connected with special bolts.
Top part of the basement provides installation of BOP equipment as per any scheme and
consists of two flat welded frames (front and back) for installation of the central frame
(rotary module) and two side frames (control module and auxiliary drawworks module) to
be mounted. They form the drilling floor which provides installation of rotary table with the
drive and installation of setbacks, auxiliary drawworks, driller's cabin, various control
panels and other auxiliary equipment.

Ladders with handrails are provided to ascend the basement. Removable handrails are
fixed to the load frames. Structure of derrick and drawworks block basement is equipped
with a special tray for collection and discharge of the drilling mud to the well head.

To install and move the preventer string under the rotary floor, two monorails with lifting
tackles are provided. For temporary fixation of the preventer string while moving the
basement, there is the suspension which is fixed between monorails.

Basements of the modules, installed in the drilling rig train, are frames with the installed
equipment. Module frames are connected to each other with screw rods. Runners to move
the train together with the derrick and drawworks block are fixed to the module frames.

Drill pump

Single-acting triplex drill pump UNBT-1180L1 is designed to feed drilling mud in the
course of deep oil and gas wells drilling.

Pressure level in the focus points of hydraulic box cylinders is reduced up to the safe
level by reducing internal diameters of the cylinders. Surface of the focus points is
processed up to Ra1.6 roughness to reduce pressure level. Forged parts of alloyed steel
are used as hydraulic boxes.

The liner is fixed with the clamp. Such structure is designed to provide tight contact of the
liner end and hydraulic box face.

The pump includes a special electric pump unit to lubricate the bearings and
components of slide-crank mechanism and transmission shaft. Moreover, there is gravity
lubrication supply system of the pump reducing part, which provides gravity oil supply to
the friction points from oil sumps through oil lines and oil mist, oil spraying and dipping into
oil.

Wheel gears and gears of the transmission shaft are heat treated.

High pressure pneumatic compensator of the welded-forged structure provides

unevenness of output pressure of max. 5% with 35 MPa working pressure.
Lubrication and cooling water supply system provides intense heat withdrawal off
the friction surfaces, lubricates plunger-plug friction pair, prevents air inflow due to
the use of hydraulic hitch which provides the required life time of the plunger.

Mud circulation system

Mud circulation system consists of 5 cleaning stages and several modules of

complete factory readiness, equipped with the required technology equipment. The
modules are mounted at railings and are connected to each other and to the derrick
and drawworks block with rods, forming the train which may move by railings to a
new well within the cluster. Joints between module frames are sealed with
intermodule seals. The modules are tied up and fixed to the adjoining equipment of
the drilling rig with technology communications.

Modules are installed in the following order: water tank module, operation module,
primary cleaning module, secondary cleaning module, flocculation coagulation unit,
mud preparation module, drilling mud modules. Mud circulation system may
operate in the mode of drilling mud cleaning, mud preparation mode and well fill-up
module.

Circulation system is equipped with the heated shelter. Facilities are heated with
hot air of the heat generator. Technology tanks are heated by coils of the steam
generator.

Cementing complex

Cementing complex has modular configuration and is part of the drilling rig train.
The complex is powered and heated by the general power supply system of the
drilling rig.

The block consists of two modules: one of them includes cementing unit UNBS2-
70 (PB), other one includes cement storage facility STsB-65.

Drawworks of ET series

Drawworks of ET series has a unique design. The range of drawworks with

lifting capacity within 160 and 500 tons provides efficient work while
tripping and drilling operations.

Drawworks of ET series have been designed by URBO-drilling equipment. The

unique structure of ET series drawworks makes it possible to refuse from traditional
structural components: chain transmission, tire-type pneumatic clutches,
electromagnetic or hydrodynamic brake, band brake and brake control handle. Size
range of drawworks with lifting capacity within 160 and 500 tons has a unique
kinematic configuration and structure. Drawworks are equipped with DC electric
drive, operating as per scheme thyristor converter-drive.
Distinctive feature of ET series drawworks: drawworks frame and gear
transmission body are mounted at the welded metal ware and hoisting shaft of the
drawworks and output shaft of gear transmission are combined into one unit.
Drawworks are simple and compact. Their weight is much less compared to
traditional chain transmission drawworks.
Gear transmission of the drawworks provides quick and slow speeds at the
hoisting shaft. Quick speed is required for hoisting and lowering of the drill string
and elevator, slow speed is required for casing operation and accidents
elimination.
Multifunctional drive of the drawworks provides hoisting and adjustable lowering of
the drill strings and casings, elevator up till complete stop and suspending in the fixed
position; adjustable bit feed to the well head in the mode of bit feed controller. In case
of main power supply failure, the motor performs hoisting of drill pipes, powered by
the diesel electric power station of 200kW capacity. For fixation of the drum the disk
brake is applied. The disc brake consists of two disks and two drive systems
(operating and emergency). Drum with the thread for Lebus cable has protective
flanges with ring straps made of low-resistant steel. Transmission has contactless
seals of a peculiar structure preventing oil leak outside as well as dust and wet
getting into the transmission body. The seals do not have wearable details of collar
type. Remote control provides comfort working conditions. It is required to control the
handle of command device of motor control system. The driller may work in the
sitting position.

DRAWWORKS MODULE LBU-750E-SNG

Basis and originality of the drawworks module consists in the mounting of

drawworks equipment and auxiliary drive at one frame of drawworks module.

Drawworks module LBU-750E-SNG has: two-speed gear transmission,

multifunction drive, contactless seals of gear transmission shafts, auxiliary drive
with DC electric motor that functions as bit feed controller, emergency drive and
remote control. Main drive of the redesigned drawworks module LBU-750E-SNG
and its auxiliary drive transmit the torque to the hoisting shaft independently of each
other from different ends of the hoisting shaft.
Gear transmission of the drawworks provides quick and slow speeds at the
hoisting shaft. Quick speed is required for hoisting and lowering of the drill string
and elevator, slow speed is required for casing operation and accidents
elimination. Multifunctional drive of the drawworks provides hoisting and adjustable

MUD PUMPS

Mud Pumps for drilling rigs are produced in two-cylinder (UNB) and three-cylinder
(UNBT) configuration, with L-shaped and direct-flow hydraulic boxes, with
capacity within 600 and 1600 kW.

Mud pumps are designed to provide flushing process while hole making, drilling mud
injection into the well for bottom hole cleaning and borehole cleaning off drill cuttings and
its lifting to surface, drilling bit cooling and hydraulic down hole motors putting into
operation. URBO drilling equipment produces pumps of the following types two-
cylinder pumps UNB-600 and three-cylinder single-end pumps UNBT with capacity
within 600 and 1600 kW.

Three-cylinder single-end pumps provide the least pressure irregularity at the output
and the least wearing capacity of valves and piston rods compared to two-cylinder
double-end pumps and they most precisely correspond to the requirements of drilling
technology.

Hydraulic seal of the cylinder-piston unit prevents air suction on the back side of the
piston and gasing of the drilling mud. Besides, the unit provides lubrication and cooling of
the friction between piston and cylinder. Two-chamber seal of the slide rod prevents oil
leaks from the crankcase and its pollution with the drilling mud. Reducer lubrication
system consists of two parts: compulsory one and gravity one from the storage bins.
Compulsory lubrication system provides constant oil pressure keeping in oil lines.
Forged hydraulic boxes made of high-strength alloyed steel and ion nitriding of the gear
transmission guarantee the specified life time of the pump. Capacity and pressure of the
pump at each diameter of the piston makes it possible to perform hole making
technology by means of forced drilling mode.

Safety valve of the blocking device cuts off the drive of the mud pumps when the
pressure is increased in the discharge pipe with simultaneous discharge of the excess
pressure.

Configuration of the manufactured pumps makes it possible to apply the drive

transmission on any side of the pump or on both sides.

MUD CIRCULATION SYSTEMS (EQUIPMENT PACKAGES)

Equipment packages of mud circulation system are designed taking into account
all current requirements to fluid cleaning procedure and conform to safety rules in
oil and gas industry.

Hydraulic bottom hole cleaning system or mud circulation system (TsS) comprises
equipment and tools as part of rig package and is designed to:

Mix drilling mud of the required density and quality

?
Clean drilling mud off cuttings
?
Store drilling mud
?
Degas drilling mud (if required)
?
Chemically treat drilling mud
?
Fill and feed drilling mud in the well
?
Remove cuttings
?

To provide the required quality of drilling mud cleaning, there are 4-5 cleaning stages
which provide the ecological safety and reduce the harmful influence of drilling mud
sludge on its technological qualities thus improving the technical and economical results
while drilling.

Mud circulation system includes the following equipment for cleaning with cleaning
fluid: vibrating screen, desander, desilter, centrifuge and degasser which provide
various level of drilling mud cleaning and prepare the sludge for disposal. The dewatered
sludge of the drilling mud is collected in the special screw conveyor and is transported
outside the mud circulation system for it further unloading to the truck.

Mud circulation system is made of separate assembly units (blocks or modules) of the
increased factory readiness with internal piping, mechanisms and cable connections
which provide high rig-up and rig-down qualities. Modular configuration of the mud
circulation system makes it possible to transport it to a new drilling site. Equipment
modules transportation is performed by standard trailers without equipment rig-down.

Modern mud circulation system provides comfort and safe labor conditions of the staff
and is designed taking into account different climatic conditions. Modules and their
configuration depend on the structure of the drilling rig.

SWIVELS

Swivel is the key element of drilling mud feeding equipment, bearing the
maximum load in the course of drilling and its reliability provides safe operation
of the drilling rig.

Swivel is equipped with a drill hose to feed cleaning fluid from fixed manifold stand into
rotating drilling strings and to hold the rotating tool while drilling.

High safety requirements are fulfilled due to the following engineering solutions:

? The swivel uses thrust bearing with tapered rollers, thus providing the increase of
swivel operational life between overhauls

High alloy steel gooseneck is highly resistant to drilling fluid under high pressure
?

Bottom part of the swivel secures oil reservoir sealing

?

? The quick release packing includes wash pipe that is plasma-hardened in the point of
contact with seals

? To increase seal life, the seals are deployed alternatively or concurrently but at half
the speed of swivel stem.

DERRICKS

Derrick is the key part of drilling rig equipment and is designed to perform the
following operations:
Tripping operations with drill pipes and casings
?
Drill string hanging at traveling block while drilling with unloading
?
Placing drill pipes and drill collars, taken out from the well
?
? Placing block-and-tackle system as well as equipment for tripping operations
mechanization, particularly lifting and handling mechanisms or derrick man
platform, derrick escape device, top drive and auxiliary equipment.

Derricks are classified: according to their function into derricks for workover
rigs, for mobile drilling rigs, for cluster and land rigs, for offshore drilling rigs;
according to their structure into mast-type and tower-type derricks. Mast derricks
are classified into: A-shaped, -shaped, 4-stand and with open front edge.
At the present moment design of drilling rigs specifies derrick with open front
edge. The figure shows derrick mast with open front edge, made of open rolled
sections. Main elements of the mast are: sections made as flat welded frames;
elements of the back edge, made as beams of various cross-section (depending on
the load).
Such configuration of the derrick provides the following advantages:
Top drive installation
?
? When mounting the basement in the bottom position, no special cranes of high
lifting capacity are required, it reduces the time of rig-up and facilitates operation of
the rigging crew
? Transportation of the derrick from one drilling site to the other one may be
performed in the vertical position in large blocks and does not require additional rig-
up.

ROUND TRIP EQUIPMENT

Round trip equipment is designed to automate tripping operations while

onshore and offshore drilling of oil and gas wells. It is optionally installed on
derricks of various configuration.

Round trip equipment provides mechanization of all stalks tripping operations.

Round trip equipment reduces time for tripping operations compared to the manual
stacking by 35-40%. Time saving is mainly achieved by combining independent
operations. Round trip equipment is controlled by one person by means of a panel
control which is installed at the setback level. Most units of the round trip equipment
are designed for all types of the drilling rigs. Round trip equipment for offshore
drilling rigs provides installation of auxiliary mechanism for stalks stacking and
intermediary magazine.

Round trip equipment includes: centralizer, stalks racking device, stalks catching
device, lifting mechanism, control panel, setback and rack, automated
multipurpose elevator. Equipment is designed to operate in combination with a
special design tackle system, stationary automated drill tong of AKB or KBG type,
air operated rotary slips.

Derrick Emergency Escape Device

Drilling rigs manufactured by URBO drilling equipment, in conformity with

safety rules in oil and gas production, are equipped with derrick emergency
escape device. This device helps a derrickman evacuate from the derrick in case
of fire, blowout or any other emergency situations.
Components of this device are mounted at the derrick, derrickman's platform
and outside the rig, at least 60 m away from the well. The carrying cable between
the derrick and the tensioning device holds the carriage and the cabin. The
carriage and the cabin it holds are located near the derrick man's platform and are
fixed by an eccentric normally-closed brake.
If an emergency situation occurs, the derrickman should enter the cabin, sit
down in the seat, pull the emergency brake handle. The carriage and the cabin
will start moving. The cabin speed is controlled by a hydrodynamic brake or, if
required, by a hand brake.
