The article Gender diversity, business-unit engagement and performance written by Sangeeta badal

and jimmy.k.harter independently relates the concept of gender diversity to business unit performance
and employment engagement to business unit performance (Financial bottom line) which can be
extrapolated to organisational and industrial level. The article verified whether employment
engagement moderates the gender diversity unit performance. The article illustrated several theories
to choose the correct variable which gives accurate and satisfactory analysis and results. selection of
variables and factors affecting the variables along with the choice of study zones has been well .
Choice of test and the process of the test along with the arithmetic analysis of the test gives a clear
and detailed analysis of the validity hypothesises mentioned in the article. the diversity in the
selection of study zones along with the detailed results of the study conducted provides the chance to
validate the hypothesis in a more general sense rather in a specified field of business.

It is clear from the article that both gender diversity and employment engagement becomes a
factor in deciding the financial performance of a business unit. It is hypothesized that There is a
positive relationship between gender diversity and financial performance at the business unit(p.346).
Gender diversity in a workspace will enable a plethora of unique ideas to form rather than in a
homogeneity group. Women and men tend to see a same problem in their different ways. While one
look for the solution of the problem, other look for the source of the problem and tries to eradicate the
source to prevent any further problems. Analysing a problem in every angle will create lots of ways to
prevent the problem rather than facing it again, this will be hard for less diversified group.
The study done by the author to test the hypothesis There is a positive relationship between
gender diversity and financial performance at the business unit level.(p.356) was proven to be very
effective due to his selection of very diversified fields. Analysing two completely different industries
and generating a common way of verifying the validity of the hypothesis is very well done. Using two
completely different industries, he generalised the method with which one can study the validity of
the hypothesis in any field of work.
Proportion of a particular gender also influences the financial performance of a business unit.
a business unit which has both male and females almost on par with each other seems to be more
effective than the groups which shows interest towards a particular gender.
Results shown by the author in his article on the analysis of gender diversity vs comparable
revenue proves that increase in the gender diversity combined with increase in the employment
engagement produced a cumulative effect on the financial performance of the business units when
taken integrally over the entire organisational unit.

One of the drawback of the analysis done by the author to study the relation between the
gender diversity and financial performance is that by neglecting the individual business units within
an organisation with extremely low performance which is being covered by their corresponding high
counterparts within the same organisation. this miscalculation will mask the performance of the
individual business units within a firm due to the results being concentrated on the firm and
organisational level. This prevents the underperformed business unit from being identified and
developed.

Overall this article is very effective in explaining the relationship between the gender
diversity and financial performance along with the cumulative effect of the employment
engagement.it clearly focused on generalising the method of analysis to any type of industry
regardless of the nature of the work. this article when taken as a whole gives an introduction to the
interdependence of psychological, intergroup and diversity in the workplace with financial and
objective performance of an organisation.
