This time we have 2 hot news that comes from Central Java and West Java. In Central
Java we have the Pertamina problem and from West Java we have Bogor Groundwater.
Elaboration :
We come to the first news, locals fish near an oil refinery belonging to state-owned oil
and gas giant Pertamina in Cilacap,Central Java. Pertamina says it has lowered its fuel
imports in the past two years. (JP/Agus Maryono).
State owned oil and gas giant Pertamina claims that it has seen a considerable decline
in fuel imports over the past two years in line with its ambitious short term goal for self-
sufficiency. Premium gasoline imports dropped by 11 percent to 102,63 million barrels in
2015 from 2014, while diesel fuel imports decreased by 65,8 percent to 11,6 million barrels,
according to the firms latest data. Purchase of both types of fuel in the January-November
period were also lower than 2015s figures, amounting to 67,9 million barrels and 690.000
barrels respectively.
Pertamina vice president for corporate communication Wianda Pusponegoro
attributed the reduction of premium gasoline imports to the operation of its residual fluid
catalytic cracking (RFCC) refinery in Cilacap, Central Java. Built with US $846,89 million
investment, the facility kicked off production in late September 2015 and supply various
intermediate gasolines, such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Going forward, Wianda predicted that as some refinery development projects were
underway. Pertamina might get a fuel output boost to help meet it self-sufficient target in fuel
by 2023.
So for the next news we come to the Bogor Groundwater.
A banana tree is placed in the middle of Ciangsana street, Gunung Putri, Bogor, West
Java as a symbol of protest against the local administration for not repairing the damaged
road, which is often inundated by flow water during heavy rain.
Pollution and a decreasing amount of forest have damaged Bogors environment and
severely degraded the citys groundwater, which is now is a critical state. Aulia Guntang the
head of Bogor Environment Agency said that research in West Java in 2017 found that the
groundwater of Bogor in West Java is in critical condition, finding clean water in the next
five years would be difficult for Bogor residents if the condition remained the same. As the
result, The Bogor administration said that they had also warned private companies in the city
to strengthen their commitment in the city to strengthen their commitment to conserving the
environment. He added that they would intensify the supervision of private companies that
have invested in Bogor to make sure they meet their commitment to conserving the
environment, otherwise an official warning would be issued.
