Metrowillimplementthefollowingoperationalimprovementstoreduce
congestionontheExpressLanesduringtheremainderFY18andintoFY19:

OccupancyDetection:ExpressLanesisevaluatingthefeasibilityofinstallingvehicleoccupancy
detectionsystemstoreducetheoccurrenceofinaccurateoccupancydeclarationsbycustomers
(whicharecurrentlybasedonselfdeclaredtransponderswitchsettings).Implementationis
expectedby4thquarterFY18.

Mobileapp:ExpressLanesisdevelopingamobileapptoaddressanissuewithvehicleswith
MetalOxidewindshields.Driversofthesevehiclesarecurrentlyunabletousetheirinvehicle
transponderstodeclareoccupancy.Themobileappwillgivetheseaffectedcustomersan
alternatemethodfordeclaringtheirvehicleoccupancyforagiventrip.Implementationis
expectedbyMarch2018.

OccupancyEnforcementBeaconlights:TheoverheadindicatorlightsusedbyCHPtocheck
whetheragivenvehiclestranspondersettingaccuratelyreflectsthecurrentoccupancylevelof
thevehicleisbeingupgraded.Thecurrentindicatorlightsflashdifferentcolorcombinationsto
indicateagivenvehiclestransponderswitchsetting.Theupgradedindicatorswillbedigital
panelsthatdisplaynumericvaluescorrespondingtothevehiclestransponderswitchsetting.
ImplementationisexpectedbyApril2018.

EarthCam:ThreenewCCTVcameraswillbeinstalledtoimproverealtimetrafficandincident
monitoring.InstallationisexpectedbyNovember2017.

Newtollgantries:ExpressLanesisevaluatingthefeasibilityofinstallingfouradditionaltoll
gantriestoimprovetollcollectionandviolationenforcement.Thetollgantrieswillstrategically
targetcurrentcoveragegapsinthesystemandwillbetterequipMetrotomanagecongestion
andfacilitateenforcement.Implementationisexpectedbythe2ndquarterofFY19.

ImprovedLaneAccessManagement:Toreducetheoccurrenceofunsafeandillegalmaneuvers
intoandoutoftheExpressLanesbetweenthedesignatedentrances/exits,channelizersarebeing
installedbetweenthegeneralpurposelanesandtheExpressLanesonsegmentsthathaveahigh
occurrenceofvehiclescrossingthedoublewhitesolidlinepavementmarkings.Implementation
isexpectedinSeptember2017forI110,andinearly2018forI10.

MetroExpressLaneswillbecelebratingits5yearAnniversary:TheI110anniversarywillbe
FridayNovember10,2017.TheI10anniversarywillbeFridayFebruary23,2018.Inrecognition
ofthismilestonestaffhasplannedasocialmediacampaigntogathertestimonialshighlighting
customerexperienceandfeedback.Rewardsandmarketingincentiveswillbegiventoexisting
customersfortheirloyalty.
