As soccer fever reaches its pitch in Cape Town,
CJSA has continued to plan for interesting outings
and activities that are not going to compete with the
road closures – not an easy task and we will take
each day as it comes.
Sundays@6 are proving to be popular events.
Sea Point Lifestyle members have had interesting,
thought provoking movies shown and the evenings
have been enhanced with the serving of a light
meal after the viewing, where members have the
opportunity to “ schmooze”. We are extending this
programme to both Claremont and Milnerton . At
both centres committee members and volunteers will
plan their own Sundays@6, For further information,
contact the centre nearest to you.
The recent programmes have had varied and
interesting guest speakers. We have enjoyed the
wisdom of Rabbis, guest speakers from all walks
of life, outings to interest members with diverse
perspectives. Delicious meals are prepared at each
branch on certain days, usually in conjunction with
guest speakers so our members certainly have
many opportunities to enjoy their retirement years.
CJSA is fortunate to receive a number of substantial
donations throughout the year and we are always
most appreciative of the fact that organisations
and private donors think of us and support our
programme.

25th Anniversary Celebrations
CJSA is gearing up for our silver anniversary
celebrations which will start in August. We kick off
with the three day Ot Azey Yiddish Festival with
passionate Yiddish teachers who will impart their
love of the language for novices, intermediate or
advanced students. The course includes deliciously
prepared lunches and teas with food from “der
heim”. Book early to avoid disappointment.
10th Annual Yiddish Song Festival – “Mazaltov”
will feature many of our previous stars with a couple
of new ones to highlight this milestone.

Our members, some of them who have been
members since inception of CJSA will be able to
enjoy a celebratory party which will be in the form
of a road show. We will host a special birthday
celebration at each branch to ensure that the vast
majority of all members will be able to share in this
simcha.
Although we enjoy partying, it is also important that
our celebratory year has a special fundraiser. This
will be hosted on the evening of the 27th October
at the Sea Point Civic Centre where we would hope
to share in this milestone of CJSA with our regular
sponsors as well as other generous members of

Ageing to be held at the same venue on the 28th
October. All members will be welcome to attend.

Volunteer Progamme
Our special volunteer programme co-ordinated by
social worker Claire Greenspan is really proving
to be a wonderful initiative. Almost every week
the programme has brought some “gift”. These
gifts have been so rich in purpose. The human
element is so strong and the capacity to enrich
and enhance the lives of others has truly come to
the fore. Extraordinary friendships have emerged.
Some have even come full circle, where a Volunteer
made such a dramatic difference to someone who
was battling an illness and now, due to unfortunate
circumstances, the situation has been reversed. It
is now the turn of the recipient of the Volunteer’s
services to willingly give back.
Volunteers have assisted in numerous and exciting
ways. Volunteers continue to offer lifts and carry out
shopping where necessary. Home and hospital visits
continue as required. Each branch of CJSA has
members who have already become volunteers -
however the need is great and ever increasing. So if
you have a couple of hours a week to donate time to
this worthwhile programme, we are sure that you will
enrich your life. Please contact the office for further
details. Each volunteer receives special training and
we will ensure that you are “matched” with a suitable
person.
