Re: Recent tensions between Japan and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea

His Excellency Mr. Shinzo Abe,

I am sending you this letter that is regarding the recent hostility shown by Japan against the Democratic
Peoples Republic of Korea and by the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea against Japan.1 It was
reported that the government of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea launched ballistic missiles
near or over your country and that your country has become a participant in the war games that occur
every year along the border of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. These events are extremely
concerning and instead of more conflicts arising, I hope that diplomacy is ensured by all parties.

I would like to first say that when viewing the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea as a sovereign
country, I do not understand why that country is being sanctioned for testing ballistic missiles if it only
occurs in their own soil. Some other countries that regularly engage missile testing are the United States
of America, the Peoples Republic of China, the Russian Federation and the Republic of India. Neither of
those countries are repetitively targeted through sanctions such as how the Democratic Peoples
Republic of Korea is, however it does appear that the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea continues
to be targeted in particular by the United Nations Security Council. I personally disagree as with the
primary purpose as to these repetitive sanctions that are being issued by the United Nations Security
Council against the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea in which are not in regards as to
humanitarian purposes.2

It seems as if some countries in our world are only interested in creating sanctions while not aspiring or
showing that they are aspiring to engage in true diplomacy with the Democratic Peoples Republic of
Korea. I believe that the type of demanding entitled foreign policy that seems to be occurring is actions
that involve heated exchanges, threats and demands against the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea
without countries seeking to peacefully engage in any type of give and take peaceful settlements.3
Obviously, something is severely wrong with this type of foreign policy in which sanctions are considered

Peoples Republic of Korea furious, the United States of America has stated at the United Nations Security Council
that the drills have been going on for over forty years and that they were not going to stop.

to be the only resort as to a foreign policy standpoint and when peaceful compromising is off of the
table.

I do not believe that it is good as far as diplomacy is concerned for Japan to be a participant in the war
games that occur every year along the border of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea. That is
because I strongly believe that a primary cause as to the conflict in the Korean Peninsula is due to the
war games that are primarily being committed by the United States and by South Korea. The war games
that occur every year do not have positive consequences and only have negative consequences, such as
creating and causing hostility and threats. I also believe that the war games are a huge waste of the
money of the taxpayer and are purely stupid. I believe that all sides that are participating in the war
games need to stop and this includes Japan. By Japan joining as a participant in the war games, this
move will not improve diplomatic relations between Japan and the Democratic Peoples Republic of
Korea and Japan moving as to being a participant in the war games will only create and cause more
tensions between your country and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea, and with all parties that
are involved in the conflict in the Korean Peninsula.

The government of Japan and the government of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea do not have
any type of official diplomatic relationship. I strongly believe that needs to change.4 I believe that
establishing an official diplomatic relationship with the government of the Democratic Peoples Republic
of Korea would help both Japan and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea engage in a settlement
as to any past or current issues in which both countries would like to peacefully resolve. Diplomacy in
this sense is possible if both Japan and the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea engaged in peaceful
negotiations that is in a fair and in a just way. As far as the conflict between your country and the
Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea is concerned, I do not believe that any type of diplomacy will be
possible if your country continues to be a participant in the war games that are along the border of the
Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea.

I do hope that representatives of the government of Japan and that representatives of the Democratic
Peoples Republic of Korea will meet face to face as for the purpose as to engaging in a peaceful
settlement that is in a fair and in a just way.5 Any type of armed conflict between Japan and the
Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea can and should be avoided. Political interference should not be
allowed to get in the way as with countries aspiring to engage in peace talks. Citizens of Japan should
not have to worry about being in an armed conflict with the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea and
citizens of the Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea also should not have to worry about being in an
armed conflict with Japan.

Mr. Abe, I hope that you understand that all of us are a part of one world and all of us need to do
everything that we can do as to making our world a better and a healthier place to live. Peaceful
coexistence is possible and I know that we will be able to achieve this. We are all in this together and all
countries should be acting as if we are all in this together without political interference. Politics should

not be used to prevent countries from engaging in a peaceful settlement as to any current of past issues
that need to be peacefully resolved.
