Distributed factored load on wall=600 KN

Horizontal factored load=200 KN

Wall thickness=200 mm

Wall height=4m

Wall length=8 m

Concrete strength=25MPa

Steel yield strength=400MPa

Check whether shear due to concrete can withstand the factored shear given.

The design for shear is satisfactory

If the shear due to concrete was not enough to withstand the factored shear, the shear due to steel
reinforcement would have been determined as follows.

Pr = 1 c fc Ag (1 ( ) ) = 0.8125 25 1000 200 (1 ( ) ) = 2031 /

Since Pr = 2031 KN/m > Pf = 600 /

The axial strength of the wall is satisfactory.

The axial strength will also be determined using strain compatibility along with moment resistance of
the section.

Check Moment resistance of the wall

Flexural capacity of the wall is hard to find since some longitudinal reinforcement undergoes yielding
due one part of wall experiencing tension. To determine the moment resistance of the wall under this
condition, one must use strain compatibility to find its flexural strength.
