Lets start with the basics. Getting foundation items that
really fit you will make every item you put on fit and look
better. Go into one of the many department or specialty
stores and have them measure you. Bra sizes change over
the years and some of us are not quite as tight as we were
in our teens and 20s.
Getting the right bra

you are) will be one of
the best investments you
can make. Same with
foundation items. There
are many new types
which offer smoothing
and comfort and no vis-

Now lets talk clothes.
A great fitting pair of

a wardrobe. Find a great
fit with quality material.
Do not skimp on getting
the right fit as that poly

not fit or last as well as a
fine wool gabardine.
The perfect white shirt

a fine silk will also help to complete your look. If it is a
button down, make sure there are no gaps and please look
at your back. You dont want to see rolls or your bra line
showing through.
A great dress is always in style. Pick out a few styles that
you like and try them on. You will find a style that works
best for your body type be it a shirt, dress, or sheath.
This is a place that you can go solid or print but make sure
that it doesnt overwhelm you. You want people to see you

available in bright colors, such as apple

These days, even conventional sinks are
installed with added amenities.
The traditional under-mount sink still
rules but with new shapes and features
such as sliding cutting boards, utensil
trays, drying racks, and colanders, says
Taylor, who explains this style is great for
people who really cook!
Some cooks like sinks with one large
basin instead of two smaller basins, as a
single, roomy basin can fit larger items,
such as pots and pans.
Sinks can be energy-efficient, too. Look
for WaterSense labels on faucets and aer-
ators, which can save the average family
700 gallons of water yearly.
Modern sink designs keep the work-
space streamlined and minimalistic but
with many fresh features. For example,
one new faucet design allows users to
switch to a touch-less faucet (a sensor trig-
gers the water flow), which can prevent
cross-contamination in the kitchen. Pull
down faucets with multifunction sprayers
make cleaning easy.
Sink Style
Stainless steel, another recent sink trend,
adds a feel of sophistication to the kitchen.
Ford calls it a great option and says its
very sleek against white cabinets.
Paired with bright colors, open shelv-
ing, and cool dishes, your sink will defi-
nitely be an attention-grabber, she says.
Pricier materials look stunning and per-
form well, too.
In higher-end applications, integrated
sinks in marble or quartz give a sophisti-
cated, sleek, seamless look, says Taylor,
explaining that the sinks not only look nice
but also are easy to maintain.

Sure, bathroom sinks are mostly just for
washing hands, but form and function can
coexist.

When remodeling your bathroom,
dont just pop in a standard kitchen sink,
says designer Jenna Sue of the Jenna Sue
Design Co., who worked with home-
improvement company Lowes to create a
farmhouse flip.
She says freestanding sinks are a thing
of the past. Modern homes feature trendy
upgrades, such as floating wall-mounted
sinks, which create an airy look and make
the space seem more open.
For a stylish sink option, instead of
one long vanity, consider connecting two
single vanities with a storage tower or
cabinet.
Make a statement with your sink basin,
too. Vessel sinks, which can look like deco-
rative bowls or serving platters, are avail-
able in a variety of colors and materials,
including glass and stone.
Let your sink be a work of art, says
Sue. Vessel sinks are a great way to make
a statement and will catch your eye as
soon as you walk in.
For a muted but sophisticated look in
the bathroom, go country. Ford suggests a
farmhouse sink here, too. Add a large fau-

perfect time of year to think
about revamping your mudroom
or creating one. In homes located

There are many reasons to have a personal storage space,
whether its combining or dividing homes after marriage or
divorce, downsizing for military deployment or college living,
or emptying a home after someone goes into a nursing home or
passes away. According to a fact sheet published in 2013 by the
Self Storage Association, there are over 52,500 primary
and secondary self-storage units rented in the United
States, equal to approximately nine percent of all Ameri-
can households. Without renting a self-storage unit, the
average household relies on storage spaces in an attic,
basement, garage, root cellar, or shed.
Whether you choose to store items in your own or
rented space, you expect that your things are stored
safely and will be safe from damage that can be caused
by bugs, rodents, and other pests. Many people have
had the unfortunate experience of finding damage
done by mice, rats, roaches, ants, spiders, moths, flies,
bed bugs, and other creepy-crawlies. Your possessions
can also be damaged by environmental damage from
water leaks, extreme temperatures, fire, and theft. If its
worth saving, then you dont want everything turned into
damaged junk.
Before you store, think about the items you are planning
to put away. Use waterproof containers like the heavy
plastic kind with snap-tight covers. If you are planning to
store important documents such as birth certificates and
deeds, use a small, lockable, fireproof box. Photographs,
paintings, sculptures, and precious metal objects should
be stored in temperature and climate controlled storage
spaces. Wood, leather, and delicate fabrics also survive
best in dehumidified and temperature controlled envi-
ronments. Collectibles put away for the possibility of an
increased value need to be stored properly or they will be
ruined, making them worthless.

most widely used materials. Consider the pros, cons, and

from the outside looking in can
command high prices that could get
your home sold fast. Every improvement
to your homes curb appeal can work in
your favor. And keep in mind that buy-
ers have an eagle eye when it comes to a
homes first impression. A loose shingle,
a wobbly stone in your walkway, some
weeds in your landscaping they may be
mostly invisible to you, but these details
stand out to buyers. It can be a big help
to have your real estate agent eagle-
eye your curb appeal to point out any
fixes needed.
Curb appeal is so important when you
are selling your home, says Christine
Nagy, real estate agent at Coccia Realty.
I am with buyers every day who are siz-
ing up a home from the moment they get
out of their car. If the home has a front
door with chipped paint or a cracked
walkway, they are immediately adding up
money for repair before they even walk
in the front door. Plus, most buyers do
their preliminary searches on the Inter-
net, so if the home doesnt look pretty and
well-maintained, they just click on to the
next home.

improvements can add up to a higher sell-
ing price and a quicker sale.
Here are some curb appeal improve-
ments to consider:
Lawn and garden
Make sure your lawn is mowed consis-
tently. Apply sod where needed, and pay
careful attention to neat edge trimming. A
well-manicured lawn is a great canvas for a
picture-perfect home, says Nagy.
Weed any landscaping areas and pull
those tiny weeds from the edges of your
driveway and walkways.
Prune shrubs and replace any old and
unsightly shrubs with new ones.
Deadhead any flowering trees or bushes.
If any bricks or pavers are missing,
replace them with a careful color and
style match.
Search for and remove any bee or wasp
nests from the outside of your home and
under awnings.
Plant little pops of color, such as pan-
sies or any other inexpensive blooms, in
your landscaping.
Trim trees back from the roof and siding,
doing so safely or hiring a tree company.
Power-wash
Remove any dirt or grime from your
houses siding and brick for its best
appearance. You can rent a power-washer
from a home improvement store, or hire a
company to power-wash for you.
Power-wash your driveway and flag-
stone walkways as well.
Wash all windows, inside and out.
Again, you can tackle this job yourself or
hire a company to complete this task.
Clean your garage door, but take care to
follow power-washing instructions so that
you dont chip paint off of an older garage
door. A simple hosing may do the trick.
A fresh coat of paint
A fresh coat of color can boost your
homes curb appeal, and new paint is one
of the curb appeal fixes that appraisers will
value. Keep in mind, though, that trying to
make a statement with a bright or unusual
color can actually hurt your appraisers
value of your home, so stick with the origi-
nal color, or consult with your real estate
agent about a smart-selling shade for your
property and neighborhood.
Mind the roof
Your roof will be one of the first things
potential buyers will look at, since a new
roof is one of those big ticket items that
can be a big turnoff. Faded, curled or
cracked shingles can damage your homes
appearance and value, especially if all of
the neighboring houses have spotless, new
or nearly new rooves. Appraisers will mark
down the value of your home if your roof
is in disrepair. So bring in a roofing com-
pany to assess, spot-fix, replace or sim-
ply clean off years of mold, lichen, moss
and algae.
Assess your gutters, looking for any
sagging, bent portions, and be sure your
downspouts are in good condition from
top to bottom. Gutter guards can impress
buyers, as well.
Replacements
Add some modern flair with a new mail-
box, address plaques, doormats, and
outdoor lighting fixtures. Be sure that all
bulbs are in working order and clean out
any dead bugs or webs. Buyers will notice
those unsightly problems and wonder if
your home has bug problems.
Replace torn screens, cracked windows,
and old door insulation strips.

Getting ready to put your home on the market can be a
stressful time, but if youre willing to put in a little time
and elbow grease, it doesnt have to put a strain on your
bank account.
First, look at your home like a potential buyer. Outside,
first impressions count. If your front door looks tired, give

it a fresh coat of paint. Be sure the doorknobs open cor-
rectly. Clean and sweep the porch, and keep cobwebs to
a minimum. Spend a few bucks on a new welcome mat.
Outside, flowers sell. Realtor Eric Rogers suggests plant-
ing some fresh flowers in front of the house. Go for rich
colors, such as red, purple, and blue. If you need an easy
fix, impatiens are hardy, pretty, and inexpensive. If gar-
dening isnt your thing, hang baskets and potted flowers
on the porch to create a warm and inviting entry. If you
have garden beds with mulch, add a few new bags on top
for great visual improvement.
Homeowner Brad Davis is considering selling his home,
so he recently removed the unruly shrubs from his yard
and built a raised block flower garden out front. I did it
all myself and probably spent $1,000 on it, mainly because
of the blocks. The bulbs and plants were cheap, he says. Planting flowers is a simple and inexpensive way to maximize your homes curb appeal.
And it changed the whole look of the front of the house.

items to charity. You can store whats left in plastic stack-
able totes. Or you might want to invest in a closet orga-
