A message from the Branch Secretary
Thank you for joining the Labour Party in Stroud Green ward. This guide is designed
to explain your local Labour Party and show how you can get involved with our work.

Stroud Green ward is the largest of ten branches in Hornsey and Wood Green
constituency. One in ten of your neighbours more than 600 people - are card
carrying members of the Labour Party. This is unusual, to say the least, and means we
can not only campaign regularly here, but can help members in parts of the country
where Labour is far less strong.

Were a busy party, and as the weeks progress youll get endless emails from me and
my colleagues at constituency level asking you to play your part. Please do! You only
need enthusiasm and good humour to get involved.

If you ever have any questions or queries, please feel free to contact me on 07791
159201 or stroudgreenlabour.secretary@gmail.com and I will endeavour to be
helpful.

Yours in solidarity, Avril Baker Branch Secretary

A message from Catherine West MP

Catherine West, our Labour MP, previously served as Leader of Islington Council. An
Archway resident, a speaker of five languages and a long term campaigner for
fairness in our area, we in the Stroud Green Branch are delighted to have been part
of her election in May 2015.

Thank you for joining the Stroud Green Labour Party in our fight for a fairer Hornsey
& Wood Green. Under the Tory Government, our society is becoming more unequal.
Insecure, zero hours contracts are at a record high, young people are finding it
impossible to rent or buy homes and our nurses, doctors and care workers are
struggling to cope with ever rising demand. As your MP I will spend my time in
Parliament fighting for the things that matter and standing up for our community. I
look forward to campaigning with you over the coming years. Please contact me on
catherine.west.mp@parliament.uk if there is anything I can help with or visit my
website at www.catherinewest.org.uk for details of my regular advice surgeries.
Our Labour Councillors
In the June 2014 local elections, Stroud Green went from having no Labour
Councillors to winning all three seats. We Councillors would all like to welcome you
to Stroud Green Labour Party. As long-term residents of Stroud Green, we are
passionate about improving the area, and it is a great privilege to represent the local
community on Haringey council.

Stroud Green is a fantastic place to live. Combining the bustle of Stroud Green Road
with quieter residential streets and the greenery of Finsbury Park

We also have one of the largest Labour memberships in the country. There is a
variety of activity at both ward and constituency level, including meetings,
campaigning and fundraising events with high-profile speakers. We hope that you
will get involved, and we look forward to meeting you soon. We each hold monthly
surgeries which are open for all residents to bring their issues along.

How your local Labour Party is run
In the Hornsey & Wood Green constituency (the area represented by Catherine
West) there are ten Branches of the Labour party, each covering one ward of
Haringey Council. These ten Branches are all parts of the Hornsey & Wood Green
Constituency Labour Party (CLP).
The Branches meet regularly and the CLP has a General Committee (GC) that
organises the party locally. The Chair is Celia Dignan. You should get regular updates
about constituency activities from the Secretary, Dana Carlin and the Borough
Organiser (joannaorganiser@gmail.com). Your Branch Secretary will let you know
about ward activities.

How you can get involved

Coming to Meetings and socials
We meet usually on the first Wednesday of the month at 8pm. You will get venue
details and confirmation from the Secretary. In addition to this, we plan a few socials,
and other meetings as well as dozens of door knocking sessions for elections which
seem to happen constantly. Were a friendly bunch in Stroud Green Labour, who
work well together and often finish up at the pub or cafe.

Canvassing with the local Party

Ongoing canvassing is really important; to maintain our relationship with voters, even
when there is no imminent election we need to keep knocking on doors and
delivering literature. In Election Time it is absolutely critical to get all hands to the
pump. There will be work almost every day to be done at our HQ at 28 Middle Lane,
Crouch End, N8 8PL.

Campaigning
The Party is committed to campaigning on issues vital to our members, and it would
be great if you were willing to get involved. Locally we have campaigned around
many issues including fair funding for education, threats to the NHS, refugees and
asylum seekers, and the lack of housing.
