Summary 3
Ms. Candice Chinaikan has attended to the University of Trinidad and Tobago where she
completed her degree in Biomedical Engineering. She is now a Biomedical Engineer and
Director of Caribbean Training PARC Diagnostics. Today she presented on 3D ECG Mapping
which was very interesting.
The system computerized screening analyzer differs from the traditional ECG analyzers
because it is based on a new approach to ECG signal analysis - the ECG Dispersion Mapping
(ECG - DM) method. The DM method uses traditional ECG signals only as the way of
capturing low amplitude oscillations of surface potentials. Therefore, the result of ECG signal
digital processing is not the traditional ECG data, but a viewable MAP of dispersion changes of
the myocardium, which is formed on a computer screen as a so called "3D Heart Image".
The unique structural component of the ECG DM method is the dispersion analysis of low
amplitude ECG signal oscillations during particular PQRST cardio cycle intervals. Low
amplitude oscillation dispersion analysis is performed during 30-60 seconds of continuous ECG
signal monitoring. Incoming Signals are provided by limb leads only R Arm L Arm R Leg L
Leg.Amplitude dispersion medians are in range 5 - 30 micro volts, being significantly lower
than ECG wave amplitude medians.Special analysis of such low amplitude signals (ECG
fluctuation) ensures the reliable identification of slight deviations in myocardium polarization
and re-polarization processes. This analysis is related to ECG (electrocardiogram) fluctuations
with myocardial metabolism.
From the presentation today I learned that 3D ECG Mapping has a lot of advantages over a
normal ECG is that the system's portability and speed of analysis add greatly to cutting the costs
associated with the detection of ischemic heart disease. Also that the regular use of this system
enables early detection of heart abnormalities. The technology uses new information from ECG
fluctuations that are usually ignored as "noise" by regular ECG devices. The device creates a
unique three dimensional color portrait of the heart's electrical field dynamics, allowing for
rapid recognition and estimation of the heart's condition. The system will depict a disease or
stress level as an image instead of a line drawing electrocardiogram. The non-invasive screening
system will provide more efficient clinical trials of new medications and treatment procedures
results. The system evaluates the stability of current heart conditions. It improves disease-trend
monitoring during medical treatment. The device detects more cases of diseases and provides a
better level of diagnosis with its improved sensitivity levels that can detect early warning signs
that would normally be invisible with standard ECG devices. The device can detect small
metabolic deviations preceding the dangerous ischemic damages of myocardium. The system
differentiates arrhythmias and stresses. Depending on the pathology, the device sensitivity
surpasses standard ECG analyzers by 7 to 50 times and the ease of use makes device practical
for non-clinical operators
