Strategic Planning in Organizations

STRATEGIC PLANNING IN ORGANIZATIONS

The project is a set of different tasks which are interrelated to attain a particular goal. The

project can be conducted on a smaller scale or bigger scale depending on the nature of the

goal. Usually, the term project is used only in the institutional context. A project is very

different from the routine work or tasks, some of those differences are mentioned below;

1. Project is an organized set of actions with a clear hierarchy while tasks are usually

random

2. Projects may be comprised of series of works, but a task will be singular

3. A task is usually simpler whereas a project is sometimes complicated

Nowadays project management is often used to train the future executives because they will

be responsible for the fate of organizations tomorrow. Their actions will determine, whether

the company will progress or will be bankrupt. By training the future executives about the

project management their abilities to manage the project will improve stupendously.

Furthermore, the executive managers can serve as role models for the project manager and

project team through the right actions (Ireland, 2006).

Similarly, as managing efficiently the project yields better result there are also some factors

which are responsible for the failure in completing a project in an efficient manner. Some of

them are as follows:

1. Wishful thinking of managers rather than the realistic thinking

2. Unrealistic goals set by the executives which are both impossible and impractical to

attain in the desired time frame.

3. The manager does not devote much time to develop project management competencies

in house (Rodriguez,2016).

Finally, the role of strategic planning and the project manager is vital for the project

implementation. Strategic planning is the slightly different concept from the planning,

strategic planning is about imagining the goal and planning each possibility to attain that very

goal. Strategic management based on long-term forecasts, helps thecompany to anticipate

future challenges and opportunities(Volberda, 2010). Strategic planning is more systematic

in nature than the planning, so the role of strategic planning and project manager are essential

in the project implementation because it will predict any future threats to the project and will

guarantee the smooth running of it.
