About the League
By Haddon Atwell
This league originated in the year 2012 when a young handsome
chemical engineer approached his associates and raised the concept of
a league that would change fantasy football as we know it. The idea
was to implement a system where no team could have the same player.
A structure of fantasy football that would replicate a draft like the process
of what actual AFL teams do in the rookie draft. His associates were
astounded by this strange, new, yet exciting concept and that was the
start of the Demon Baby League. Since then many modifications and
bills had been passed thought the correct democratic process to result in
the league we have today.

Rules and Regulations
The Draft Order
Summary of Current Rule:
The draft order determining activity is first proposed by the winner of the
league from the previous year. The activity must be fair and even so there is
no clear advantage for any one member over another. The activity then is
voted upon by the league and must be agreed by the majority. If the activity
doesnt reach these conditions, then the current league champion must
present another method.
Precedents:
- Archery has the been the most memorable but requires significant
planning and majority of league members to be present.
- Picking the number each on a greyhound race and the race result
determines the draft order list. This should only be used if an activity
hasnt been picked in time.
- Everyone starting with $50 at the greyhounds (or similar e.g. casino)
and who earns the most after half a hour of betting (minimum five bets)
determines the draft order list. An excellent choice given ease of
organising and quick results.
Proposals:
- Rather than the previous years winner proposing their choice, simplify
the process with the majority agreeing on an activity. Concerns that its
not a suitable reward or being an annoyance for winner refer to Kirk
not being able to select an activity due to lack of planning from himself
and/or majority overruling.
- Prior process for absent league members, different handicaps for
being absent for a valid reason and absent for a poor reason refer to
$50 greyhound activity where league member Mitch was put on $0.
- Discuss possible impartial agents who act on behalf of absent
member.
- Introduction for a deadline for draft order method approval to be
reached by late December. From experience, New Years celebrations
has been the best time for all league members to be together at once.
- Elimination of draft order determining activity and replace with a draft
lottery.
The Draft
Summary of Current Rule:
In a snake draft, each fantasy coach has one pick in each round. Each team
makes its first-round pick based on a predetermined order. When the first
round is over, the team that picked last in the first round, picks first in the
second round i.e. the draft snakes back on itself. This cycle repeats until every
position of the team is picked.
Each draft pick has a time limit, currently undefined, but a longer time can be
requested providing the reason is valid and that the league is notified on the
group chat/text message beforehand.
Required Action:
- Define time limit for each round with possible differences for the first half
of the total draft picks compared the second half. Default time limit is 24
hours.
- Requirement of clear communication when league member is unable to
draft refer to Pauls family dinner which prevented him from not
drafting in the first round, holding up the draft for hours.
Precedents:
- The draft is held usually on Sunday at 9pm AEDT, 11 or 12 days before
the first game of first round of AFL commences.
- The failure to draft a player due to being absent without a valid reason
resulted in the next highest averaging player available, regardless of
position, to be drafted to that coachs team.
Proposals:
- Possible time limit for entire draft e.g. 7 days.
- Introduction of punishment for members who hold up the draft without a
valid reason or for failure to communicate (excluding events that prohibit
member from communicating e.g. internet drop-out in another country).
Winners are Grinners (WrG) Posts
Summary of Current Rule:
At the end of every round during the regular fantasy football season, the
league member who gets the highest score of the round must post an
amusing video must be posted by the following Wednesday, before midnight
AWST. This video must epitomise their victory, either as an insult at their
defeated opponent that round or their rival in the league. The video may also
be a celebration of their teams strength and status in the league.
Required Action:
- The definition of a WrG posts: Can it be a relevant story or does it have
to be video refer to the WrG Witchhunt of 2017 (Matt vs Kirk).
- A detailed punishment for league members who forgot to post a WrG
Facebook post by the deadline - refer to Paul who has forgot twice in
two years.
Precedents:
- The punishment that Paul faced in 2017 for forgetting to post a WrG
was that his opponent of the current round got to select his captain out
of only the players that was his field by Friday i.e. Paul could drop and
pick up players before his captain was selected.
- The requirement of sufficient commitment to a thoughtful and
entertaining WrG post refer to when Haddon posted a video that was
earlier in year was posted in the A-team group chat.
Proposals:
- The requirement for a WrG post every round should be exempted
during bye rounds and finals. Getting the top score during byes isnt an
achievement when you have more players than everybody else.
Indigenous Round
Summary of Current Rule:
The AFLs annual round recognising and celebrating indigenous players is
held during Round 10 and the Demon Babies League, with its commitment to
diversity, honours this round 10 by making special team requirements just for
indigenous round. Each team can only have indigenous players to be their
captain AND vice-captain that round.
Required Action:
- A detailed punishment for league members who vice-captain non-
indigenous players to completely avoid the scenario that a non-
indigenous player becomes captain intentionally or non-intentionally.
Precedents:
- The AFL website or aflcommunityclub.com.au provide the list of
indigenous players in the AFL.
Proposals:
- Possible other celebratory rounds being introduced e.g. bald round and
rural round.
- Lack of bald players and uncertainty over the definition caused
issues with bald round.
- Much elite fantasy footballers are from rural Australia, there would
be no challenge or point.

The League Name

Summary of Current Rule:
The name of league is different every year and a list of name suggestions are
posted on the leagues Facebook wall before each season. Each league
member can vote on any number of possible name suggestions. The top 3
selections are then put to another vote where league members can only vote
once and the name with the most votes becomes the league name for that
season.
Proposals:
- Possible reward for the league member who wins in the previous
season refer to Kirk complaint that his name choices werent selected
(Jurrah Justice League in 2013 and Sulcsy the Spud in 2017)
- Possible ban of personal insults as names refer to The Kirk-Dirt Bum
Bum League came in second in 2017
The League Champion
Summary of Current Rule:
The league member who wins that year gets to have his name engraved on
the Demon Babies Trophy for that year, gets to proudly said trophy in his
home residence for the entire year until he presents to the next champion.
The only other reward has been for the champion to initiate the draft order
selection activity process.
Proposals:
- Better rewards e.g. ability to the name the following year league name
providing it is fitting and suitable.

The Sacko
Summary of Current Rule:
The league member who comes last in the regular season has the disgrace of
being referred to as The Sacko of the league. His name is engraved on the
The Sacko Trophy for that year, must have the trophy out in the open of his
home residence for the entire year until he becomes better and avoids
becoming the last the next year.
The only punishment that has been defined is that the Sacko is be drink
bitch for occasions where there are more than 4 demon babies league
member present.
Required Action:
- A better punishment as the drink bitch was and would never be
enforced.
- A clear punishment for being caught not having the Sacko displayed in
residence.
Proposals:
- One possible punishment would be to pay to get the championship
trophy engraved out of his pocket and engrave the Sacko personally or
get Matt to do it.
- Maybe for two consecutive Sackos, 2kg of tomatoes to be thrown at the
offender against a wall with eye and groin protection.
The Team
Summary of Current Rule:
Each league members team is required to have on their field: five defenders,
six midfielders, one ruckman, five forwards and one utility (player can be any
position). There are five players required for the teams emergencies: one
defender, one midfielder, one ruckman, one forwards and one utility. If a team
has too many of one single position, then an extra player is situated on the
bench.
The emergencies provide cover to non-playing field players and empty field
slots. Captains are enabled in this league with a selected player having his
score doubled, vice captains provide cover to non-playing captains or empty
captain slots
Other rules include:
Lineup Change Lockout First Saturday Game of The Round

Add/Drop Lockout First Game of The Round

Captain Changes Lockout First Saturday Game of The Round

Max Free Agents Acquisitions Per Season 25

Max Acquisitions Per Week Unlimited

Restricted free agent Period 2 Days

Waiver Order Determined By Continually Rolling List

Max Trades Per Season No Limit

Trade Review Period 2 Days

Trade Review Method League Manager

Trade Deadline Sunday, Jul 23, 11:59PM AEST (Round 18)

Precedents:
- Time on ground threshold has always been 0% i.e. field players are
never replaced by an emergency if they get injured during a game.
- Trade deadline that occurs before finals to avoid collusion and ladder
position tampering refer to the Player for Picks Saga between Matt
and Dylan
- Trades agreed upon by commissioner as majority voting in 2012
became petty and vindictive.
- Lineup and Captain Change Lockout at the first Saturday Game of the
Round refer to the Kirkgate scandal of 2013
Proposals:
- Change of the first lockout (FAA banned but team player movement
allowed) which occurs at the first game of the round. This offers
problems as league members can only pick up players for a hour after
teams are announced for the round but before the first game of the
rounds starts for Thursday night games.
- Possible modification to Maximum Free Agent Acquisitions (FAA)
Picks per season to increase number of trades proposed by Haddon.
- The Player for Picks Saga: Should players be allowed to be traded for
FAA picks?
- Supported by Matt since it happens in AFL and it is a fair trade
agreed by two teams.
- Concerns: Benefits only top sides who generally have higher
remaining FAAs than most teams, giving them an added advantage.
There is a maximum FAA for a reason.
- The Rookie Keeper Rule Proposal.
- Supported by Haddon and Matt. A small advantage and adds new
element to league through an added relevance of rookies.
- Concerns: Introduction of possible dynasties (disputed), unnecessary
complexity to league, keeping rookie for his entire life is also heavily
disputed.
- Possible need of a sub-commissioner to avoid conflicts of interest when
the commissioner is personally involved in trades.
- Elimination of captains proposed by Haddon.
- Does the Waiver Order Method need to change?
The Award Ceremony
Summary of Current Rule:
Other than the trophies for first and last, there is also the Buckley Banter
Award (BBA) to be presented to the league member for best (or lamest)
banter during the year. Other league accolades include best draft pick-up and
best free agent acquisition (FAA).
Required Action:
- Award Ceremony needs to be planned for a date every year e.g. AFL
Grand Final night
Proposals:
- A ceremony with gowns, cult-esqe humming and a bell to roundhouse
kicked refer to Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 6 episode 8
The Gang Gets a New Member
- Medals and voting procedure for BBA, even the thought of a reward to
act as incentive for more quality banter e.g. League member goes first
in Round 10 or Round 11 regardless of draft position
- The Age of Arrogance has now arrived with Matt not getting
punished in the 2017 finals, an added incentive is now unnecessary
