Narrator 1: 16th (sixteenth) century, two rich families live in Verona, the Capulets and the Montagues. They
are enemies: they hate each other! And their fights are very frequent. The Capulets have one
daughter, Juliet. The Montagues have one son, Romeo. Here the story begins... We are in Verona,
in a public square...
(THEY FIGHT)
Mercutio: because we dont like each other and because they are cowards!
Tybalt: you will be sorry for what youve said...you will pay for it!
(EXIT MERCUTIO, TYBALT, PETER, BART, JOHN. ENTERS ROMEO, HE TALKS TO BENVOLIO and GREG)
Romeo: aahh!!!
Romeo: I am sad...
Greg: why?
Benvolio: well, theres a party tonight. Its at the Capulets palace. Do you want to go?
Romeo: at the Capulets palace? They are our worst enemies: they will kill us if we go!
Greg: dont worry, we will wear masks, its a fancy dress party.
Romeo: well, I dont know... it can be dangerous... OK, lets go! But we must be very careful, right!?
(THEY EXIT)
ACT 2
Narrator 2: We are now at the Capulets palace. Juliet has a nurse, she is her best friend. Juliets parents
decide to make her marry Paris, a noble but cruel man. Later that night Juliet meets Romeo at a
party and they fall in love. (AT THE CAPULETS PALACE)
Nurse: yes my dear, Im coming. And your parents are coming too: they have a big surprise for you.
Nurse: oh, I cant tell you well ok! Its about your wedding!!!
Js dad: dear Juliet, you are 14 now, and you are ready to become a wife.
Nurse: of course she is! And she will be the best wife in the world! And
Js mum: SHUT UP!!! Juliet, your father and I have found a husband for you: his name is Paris, he is
young and very rich. You will marry him next summer. Are you happy?
(ENTER PARIS AND JULIET NURSE BEHIND THEM / ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAGE: ROMEO + FRIENDS)
Paris: you will love me, you MUST love me. Good bye, my darling. (EXITS)
Mercutio: shes Juliet: shes a Capulet. Shes your enemys daughter forget her!!!
Romeo: I want to meet her, shes the most beautiful girl Ive ever seen.
Romeo: dear lady, your hand is soft and pure, let this sinner kiss it. (KISSES HER HAND)
Romeo: oh, God, let my take my sin back. (KISSES HER HAND AGAIN)
Juliet: oh, Romeo, Romeo, why are you Romeo? Change your name for me. If you love me, I will not be
a Capulet!
Juliet: my dear, its so dangerous for you to be here! If my family see you, they will kill you.
Romeo: I will face any danger, I am ready to die for your love.
Romeo: I love you so much, that I want to ask you something: will you marry me?
Juliet: yes, I will! I love you so much that I will marry you... ...tomorrow!
Friar: what? Are you mad?! Young mens love is not in their heart but in their eyes!
Romeo:I am honest: I truly love my Juliet and I want to marry her. She is a Capulet.
Friar: ok, I will help you: this marriage is a good thing for your families. It could end their rivalry.
Mercutio Romeo and Juliet got married: they are so joyful. They think that their families will approve
as narrator and that they will make peace. They are wrong: their love is destined to a terrible end!
Tybalt: MERCUTIO! Montagues! I know you came to our party now you must pay for this offense!
Romeo: STOP!!! Stop my dear friends, our families must be friends now
Tybalt: NEVER! I hate you and all Montagues. And I hate Mercutio too.
Romeo: no, stop, please! Leave him (TYBALT KILLS MERCUTIO) Nooooo!!!
Tybalt, you killed my best friend!!! Fight with me now, you coward!
Tybalt: COWARD??? Fight, fool! (THEY FIGHT AND ROMEO KILLS TYBALT)
Benvolio: Romeo, youve killed him! Now you must go away or they will put you to death. RUN!!!
Romeo: tell Juliet I love her, and I will meet her again soon (ROMEO RUNS AWAY)
Js mum: you are right, sir! Juliet is very sad because of Tybalts death. She can be happy with you.
Js dad: I am your father and this is my last word: you must marry Paris next Sunday.
Js mum: Juliet you are desperate: I know you are crying Tybalts death; you should ask for Friar Lawrences
help.
Friar: listen: drink this potion, its magical. They will think you are dead, but you will only be asleep.
When you wake up, Romeo will take you away with him
(JULIET GOES TO BED, SHE DRINKS THE POTION; THE FOLLOWING MORNING EVERYBODY THINK SHES DEAD)
Narrator 1: Romeo is in Mantua when a messenger tells him that Juliet died. He doesnt know that she drank
the potion, he thinks she truly died. So he buys some poison and goes to Juliets grave.
Romeo: I want to kiss her for the last time. (ENTERS ROMEO HE IS DISTRAUGHT)
My love, if I cant be with you, then I will die too. (ROMEO DRINKS POISON)
Oh, apothecary! Your drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.
What happened?
Oh dagger! This is your sheath. (STABS HERSELF) Here rust and let me die.
Narrator 2: Romeo and Juliets love was very strong, but very unlucky. The Prince of Verona asked the
Capulets and the Montagues to make peace, to honour their childrens eternal love. So they did.
For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo .
