ACT 1

Narrator 1: 16th (sixteenth) century, two rich families live in Verona, the Capulets and the Montagues. They
are enemies: they hate each other! And their fights are very frequent. The Capulets have one
daughter, Juliet. The Montagues have one son, Romeo. Here the story begins... We are in Verona,
in a public square...

Tybalt: ...you know...the Montagues are all fools.

Bart: oh, youre damn right Tybalt!

John: hey!!! Here they come, look!

(ENTER MERCUTIO + GREG + PETER)

Mercutio: good morning, idiots!!!

Tybalt: good morning to you, stupid dummies...

Peter: what did you call us???

Greg: how dare you!

(THEY FIGHT)

Benvolio: STOP!!! STOP!!! Why do you always start fights?

Mercutio: because we dont like each other and because they are cowards!

Tybalt: you will be sorry for what youve said...you will pay for it!

(EXIT MERCUTIO, TYBALT, PETER, BART, JOHN. ENTERS ROMEO, HE TALKS TO BENVOLIO and GREG)

Romeo: aahh!!!

Benvolio: whats up Romeo?

Romeo: I am sad...

Greg: why?

Romeo: I feel depressed... I feel lonely...

Benvolio: well, theres a party tonight. Its at the Capulets palace. Do you want to go?

Romeo: at the Capulets palace? They are our worst enemies: they will kill us if we go!

Greg: dont worry, we will wear masks, its a fancy dress party.

Benvolio: oh, come on, Romeo!!!

Romeo: well, I dont know... it can be dangerous... OK, lets go! But we must be very careful, right!?

Benvolio: everything will be fine Greg: ...and we will have fun!

(THEY EXIT)
ACT 2
Narrator 2: We are now at the Capulets palace. Juliet has a nurse, she is her best friend. Juliets parents
decide to make her marry Paris, a noble but cruel man. Later that night Juliet meets Romeo at a
party and they fall in love. (AT THE CAPULETS PALACE)

Juliet: nurse!!! Come here, come and brush my hair please!

Nurse: yes my dear, Im coming. And your parents are coming too: they have a big surprise for you.

Juliet: what is it? Please, tell me!

Nurse: oh, I cant tell you well ok! Its about your wedding!!!

Js mum: oh, nurse!!! You never shut up!

Nurse: Im sorry madam!

Js dad: dear Juliet, you are 14 now, and you are ready to become a wife.

Nurse: of course she is! And she will be the best wife in the world! And

Js mum: SHUT UP!!! Juliet, your father and I have found a husband for you: his name is Paris, he is
young and very rich. You will marry him next summer. Are you happy?

Juliet: yes, I am, but Ive never met him.

Js dad: you will see him tonight at the party.

(ENTER PARIS AND JULIET NURSE BEHIND THEM / ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAGE: ROMEO + FRIENDS)

Paris: my dear, I will be your husband soon, do you love me?

Juliet: ehm well I am not sure I dont know

Paris: you will love me, you MUST love me. Good bye, my darling. (EXITS)

Juliet: phew, hes gone! He is horrible!!! Nurse, who is that boy?

Nurse: he is Romeo: he is a Montague. He is your enemys son forget him!!!

(ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAGE)

Romeo: who is that beautiful girl?

Mercutio: shes Juliet: shes a Capulet. Shes your enemys daughter forget her!!!

Romeo: I want to meet her, shes the most beautiful girl Ive ever seen.

Mercutio: ...I might be wrong, but this love will be star-crossed...

(ROMEO MEETS JULIET)

Romeo: dear lady, your hand is soft and pure, let this sinner kiss it. (KISSES HER HAND)

Juliet: so, your sin is on my hand now?!

Romeo: oh, God, let my take my sin back. (KISSES HER HAND AGAIN)

Juliet: you kiss by the book, sir! (EXIT ALL INTERLUDE)

ACT 3
Narrator 1: We are still at the Capulets palace, in their garden. The light you can see is from Juliets
bedroom. Romeo wants to see her again. They talk and (BALCONY SCENE)

Juliet: oh, Romeo, Romeo, why are you Romeo? Change your name for me. If you love me, I will not be
a Capulet!

Romeo: call me Love and I will not be Romeo anymore!

Juliet: my dear, its so dangerous for you to be here! If my family see you, they will kill you.

Romeo: I will face any danger, I am ready to die for your love.

Juliet: how did you arrive here?

Romeo: love guided me.

Juliet: thus, do you really love me?

Romeo: I love you so much, that I want to ask you something: will you marry me?

Juliet: yes, I will! I love you so much that I will marry you... ...tomorrow!

(AT FRIAR LAWRENCES CONVENT)

Romeo:good morning, friar Lawrence. I am here because I want to get married.

Friar: what? Are you mad?! Young mens love is not in their heart but in their eyes!

Romeo:I am honest: I truly love my Juliet and I want to marry her. She is a Capulet.

Friar: ok, I will help you: this marriage is a good thing for your families. It could end their rivalry.

(EXIT ALL ENTER MERCUTIO + MONTAGUES)

Mercutio Romeo and Juliet got married: they are so joyful. They think that their families will approve
as narrator and that they will make peace. They are wrong: their love is destined to a terrible end!

Tybalt: MERCUTIO! Montagues! I know you came to our party now you must pay for this offense!

Mercutio: buzz off! Leave us alone! (THEY FIGHT)

Romeo: STOP!!! Stop my dear friends, our families must be friends now

Tybalt: NEVER! I hate you and all Montagues. And I hate Mercutio too.

Peter: no, Mercutio, dont fight! Calm down!

Romeo: no, stop, please! Leave him (TYBALT KILLS MERCUTIO) Nooooo!!!

Tybalt, you killed my best friend!!! Fight with me now, you coward!

Tybalt: COWARD??? Fight, fool! (THEY FIGHT AND ROMEO KILLS TYBALT)

Benvolio: Romeo, youve killed him! Now you must go away or they will put you to death. RUN!!!

Romeo: tell Juliet I love her, and I will meet her again soon (ROMEO RUNS AWAY)

(EXIT ALL TAKE CORPSES OUT!)

ACT 4
Narrator 2: Poor Romeo is banished from Verona. He is in Mantua. The Capulets are furious because Tybalt
was their relative. Juliets parents dont know that she married Romeo, so they oblige her to
marry Paris. Juliet is crying

(AT THE CAPULETS PALACE)

Paris: I want to marry her as soon as possible. I dont want to wait!

Js mum: you are right, sir! Juliet is very sad because of Tybalts death. She can be happy with you.

Js: dad: yes, I agree! You will get married next

Juliet: Nooooo!!! I dont want to marry him!!!

Js dad: I am your father and this is my last word: you must marry Paris next Sunday.

Js mum: Juliet you are desperate: I know you are crying Tybalts death; you should ask for Friar Lawrences
help.

(EXIT MUM, DAD, PARIS. ENTER FRIAR LAWRENCE)

Juliet: friar Lawrence, what can I do now? I am so miserable!!! (SHE CRIES)

Friar: listen: drink this potion, its magical. They will think you are dead, but you will only be asleep.
When you wake up, Romeo will take you away with him

(JULIET GOES TO BED, SHE DRINKS THE POTION; THE FOLLOWING MORNING EVERYBODY THINK SHES DEAD)

Nurse: shes dead!!! HELP! Shes dead!!!

Narrator 1: Romeo is in Mantua when a messenger tells him that Juliet died. He doesnt know that she drank
the potion, he thinks she truly died. So he buys some poison and goes to Juliets grave.

(IN THE TOMB JULIET IS LYING)

Romeo: I want to kiss her for the last time. (ENTERS ROMEO HE IS DISTRAUGHT)

I cant believe shes dead, shes still so beautiful.

My love, if I cant be with you, then I will die too. (ROMEO DRINKS POISON)

Oh, apothecary! Your drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die.

Juliet: (JULIET WAKES UP) Where is my lord? Where is my Romeo?

What happened?

HE IS DEAD!!! He drank this poison! And theres none left...

If Romeo is dead, I will not live. (SHE TAKES ROMEOS DAGGER)

Oh dagger! This is your sheath. (STABS HERSELF) Here rust and let me die.

Narrator 2: Romeo and Juliets love was very strong, but very unlucky. The Prince of Verona asked the
Capulets and the Montagues to make peace, to honour their childrens eternal love. So they did.
For never was a story of more woe, than this of Juliet and her Romeo .
