Movie analysis

1) Tittle: Lord of the flies

Director: The Lord of the flies is an American film directed by Harry Hook in 1990 based on
the novel by William Golding.

2) Setting

The settings in this film are:

Most of the story is developed on an island and a cave.

3) Characters

Ralph: He is the leader of the island in the beginning.

Jack: He is the leader of the savages.

Simon: He is an smart character in the film.

Piggy: He is a fragile and weak character due to his obesity and his asthma, he relies on
Ralph to endure the adventure on the island.(My favorite)

Roger: He is a very violent character.

Sam y Eric: They are brothers, are very united and support each other.

4) Plot

The film tells the story of some British children who, after crashing the plane, in which they
traveled, fall on an island, and they must learn to survive.

The children come to the island due to a tragic plane crash that leaves only as survivors to
children who were traveling on the plane.

5) Theme and values

THEME: Human behavior. VALUES:

-Authority: Faculty of command and obedience like Jack did it.

- Coexistence: The interaction that children had before separating.

-Society: When all the children of the island live and interact within the same space.

-Responsibility: Rules of compliance. (The basic rules that children had to meet and perform
on the island).

-Moral: About the actions or behaviors of the children.

-Intelligence: Ability to solve problems (The problems that had the children in the island)

6) Introduction

The Lord of the flies tells the story of a group of British boys whose plane has crashed on a
desert island, without adults, children have to take care of and organize.Ralph, one of the
older guys, made the "head" with the help of a snail shell, the guys decide that whoever has
the shell has the power of public speaking. This helps to establish the order, the children are
about 8-13 years old.

7) Development

This film starts when crashing an airplane and fell on an island and that way survivors came
to the desert island,at the beginning, it was all being United, working all together, help, had
the hope of being rescued having fire on day and night, trying each one had obligations. All
seemed to go well until a half-rebel guy try to do things in their own way and influence others
to disobey rules proposed earlier. This guy took them to a new camp which would integrate
more children and which looted the former camp to get things for their benefit.

8) Denovement

In this new group everyone follow to the rebel leader,they hunted pigs to eat and behaved
so wild that they even came to kill several of the boys on the island, for different reasons.
Also there was a monster called, to which all you feared but no one had seen. From now the
situation worsens. The band of Jack attacks Ralph and Piggy and steals Piggy's glasses to
make his own wood fire.

9) The end

When Ralph and Piggy decide to talk calmly with the "savages" Roger launch a rock and
this kills Piggy. Ralph runs for save his life because he believes that it will end up with his
head on a stick. Finally the boys are rescued

10) Foreshadow (Flashback)

1. When one of the children dreams that the captain tells them that everything will be fine
and, they will go home.

2. Another child dreams of a helicopter which exploits because of a storm.

11) Irony

1. Children die

2. The shy child came out one night because the captain had woken up and hid in the cave
and when he came in was a surprise, he saw him dead, ran with fear, and left, then the
savages confused him with the beast and killed him.

3. The savages stole Piggy's glasses one night, the next day they have a showdown and
one of them threw a stone that fell on the head to piggy and he died,

13) Personal opinin

In my opinion it's a pretty tough movie about kids who have to look for life on an island, and
where conditions and power make them change everything.

The bad thing is to have power and not know how to use it, and how hard it is to abuse the
weakest. A film that makes you think about the human being and its behavior and its limits,
even when they are children and what they are able to do in a cold and solitary environment.

Fear, doubts, despair, loneliness play a good role in the movie but at the same time it is also
bad and leads to catastrophic moments.
