Lesson What Worked Well
Tuesday The students really enjoyed the videos
Grammar- they were shown about subject and
Subject and predicate and seemed very engaged with
Predicate them. They seemed to understand simple
examples of subject and predicate.
Thursday Most of the lesson went very well. The
Mathematics- students seemed to enjoy the card match
Measuring up game at the start and finished it much
Angles quicker than I expected. The students were
really engaged with the interactive online
angle measuring tool, enjoying the
opportunity to have a go at it themselves,
and paid attention as I was working
through the powerpoint presentation. My
time management was good, and only a
couple of students completed the extra
worksheet for quick learners before the
end of the lesson.
Thursday I was clear in my expectations for the class.
Guided The students were excellent during their
Reading- silent reading, and most managed to
Predictions complete the prediction task quite easily
and as asked.
Friday There was great engagement and ideas
Writing- Note while we were going over the expectations
Taking of what information was required for each
criterion, which for the most part resulted
in good understanding of what was
expected. The majority of the students
worked very well during the exercise and

Even Better If
I had been better prepared- I didnt have
examples already prepared to describe
subject and predicate, and to be honest
found the topic a little bit confusing at
times myself and had to do a lot of
research beforehand so I had it right. I
needed a bit better management of the
classroom, and I needed a closure of the
lesson. I especially needed to explain the
worksheet- my explanation was almost
non-existent, which was reflected in the
students confusion, the questions which
were asked and the wrong answers
students gave
I should have done a double check of the
definitions for some of the harder angle
types on the match up cards that the
students hadnt yet encountered so that I
could explain them clearer. I could have
explained the worksheet a little bit better
than I did, most students got it right by
reading what the question asked in a
particular section, but several didnt. My
classroom management was pretty good
and they worked at an appropriate noise
level, but my mentor teacher pointed out
that when I want to address the class,
make them all stop and listen and ensure
you have their attention first, and check
their understanding of the topic/
worksheet before letting them do the task.
Many students found the idea of
summarising something in one or two
sentences very difficult- next time I would
have examples pre-prepared of how to do
this, or give them more sentences to
complete the summary in, as this is what
most students ended up doing. Next time I
work have them working more quietly
while completing the predictions task.
The students were quite noisy, and since
they were working well we let them be,
but next time I would probably enforce a
quieter noise level.
Next time I would write each criterion
heading on the board and write dot points
of the type of information required for

got a fair bit of work done. The special
needs students were assisted
appropriately so they could get the note
taking done at a level to suit their abilities
without being too overwhelmed.
Friday The students did really well considering
HASS- what a hard topic it was for the majority of

I talked to much in trying to explain the
concept, and this made the students lose
focus. Breaking the lesson up into smaller
sections, with activities that get the
students up and moving or that are fun
and engaging would be beneficial.
