and series
a sequence is aset of numbers called terms , which are
arranged in ansuccessions in which there is a relationship or
rule between each successive number ..
** the sequence can be finite or infinite ,, the finite sequence
has a last term and the infinite sequence has no last term
**a sequence of numbers is a function whose domain is the
set of positive integers
-THE REPRESENTATION OF SEQUENCE:-
n
For example:- {a(n) } = n+1 where n+1,2,3,.. etc
1 2 3
So a(n)= 2 , 3 , 4 ,

THE NTH TERM:-
Find the Nth term for the following :-
1 1 1 1
1) A(n)={ 2 , 4 , 8 ,} An = 2 n1
2) B(n)={ 1 , 2, 3 ,} Bn= n
1 2 3 n1
3) C(n)={0, 2 , 3 , 4 ,..}Cn=, n
1 1 1
4) D(n)= { 2 , 3 ,- 4 ,}
DEF.2 :-THE INFINITE SERIES
Given infinite sequence {a1,a2,.an}
Sn= a1+a2+.an
Is called an infinite series
DEF.3 :-THE PARTIAL SUM
The sequence an is defined by:-
S1=a1
S2=a1+a2
Sn= a1+a2+.an
Note:-if the sequence of partial sum converges then the
infinite series converges,,if it doesnt converges we say
that it diverges

**INFINITE SERIES CONVERGENCE AND
DIVERGENCE**
If an infinite series has a limit , it said to converges,, so the
sum can be estimated
Else if the infinite series has no limit . it said to diverges ,
and the sum cannot be estimated
Now ,, we have the KINDS OF INFINITE SERIES:-
3
1) GEOMETRIC SERIES
2) P_SERIES
3) HARMONIC SERIES
4) TELESCOPE SERIES
5) ALTERNATING SERIES
6) POWER SERIES
8) FOURIER SERIES
1)Geometric Series:-
a+ar+ar2+ar3+arn-1
ar n1 =
n=1
4
Now,, if |r|<1 the geometric series converges
And if |r|1 , then the geometric series diverges
a
If ar 1 converges ,, then
n=1
