CANDYBARSORRAFFLES?PERFORMANCETASK
Inthistask,youwillinvestigatetwodifferentfundraisingplansforthetenthgradeatEvergreenHighSchool.Youwill
createequationsandinequalitiesintwoormorevariablestorepresenttherelationshipbetweentheamountofmoney
raisedanddifferentassumptionswiththetwofundraisers.Youwillgraphtheequationsandinequalitiesandsolvethem
bothalgebraicallyandgraphically.Youwillusekeyfeaturesofgraphs,includingintersections,intercepts,andslope.You
willuseequationstopredicttheamountofmoneyeachoftheplanscouldpotentiallyraiseanddecidewhichisthebest
planforthetenthgradeclasstouse.
Thetenthgradeclassismadeupof220students.Thosestudentshaveagoalofraising$20,000intheirfundraiser,and
themaximumamounttheycanraiseis$30,000.Thetenthgradeclassisconsideringmodelingthefundraiseroneither
theraffleticketfundraisertheeleventhgradeclassdidlastyearorthecandybarfundraiserthetwelfthgradeclassdid
lastyear,sopricesandprizeswillbethesame.Detailsofbotharebelow.

beaskedtosell(r);thenumberofstudentswhowillparticipateinsellingraffletickets(s);howmanymonthsmonthly
prizeswillbeawarded(m);andthegoal,oramountofmoneythatthetenthgradehopestoraise(g).

eleventhgradersplantoseewhethertheycanreachthatgoalorwhatchangestheymustmaketothefundraisingplan
tomeettheirgoal.
