The following designs can be registered in India:

A design can be a shape, pattern, ornament, configuration,
a composition of colours & lines applied to an article. It can
either be 2-Dimensional or 3-dimensional or both forms.
 REQUIREMENTS FOR DESIGN REGISTRATION

A design registration protects the visual presentation of the objects. It can either
be two or three dimensional, but does not consist of any trademark, property

What points should be kept in mind while making a design?

Design must be new and original
Design should not have obscene, controversial or offending content
Design should not be published before registration
Design must not be similar to an existing design

What is the validity of the Design?

The validity of the design registration is initially for ten years after which it
needs to be renewed. In order to retain the rights the design is to be
renewed which extends the period for more five years.

When does the Applicant for Registration of Design get the

registration certificate?
A certificate of registration is issued to the applicant when an application
for registration of a Design is in order, it is accepted and registered .
However, in order to obtain the certificate a separate request needs to be
made to the Controller for obtaining a certified copy of the legal
proceedings.
