IbITRODUCTION
Ttris modificatioa allots more precise control of
kV output by the addition of pushbutton selection
of t 2 kV st,eps at any porer setting.
DESCRIPTION
Four pushbutton srritches have been added to Ehe
generator control pane1, allowing selection of a
-2 kV step, a + 2 kV step, a standard setting as
selected by the kVp rotary striEch ("OFF") and se-
lecton of EIGH and LOW kVp rangss. (fnis last
func t j-on was p rev ious ley conEroll ed by a rocker
sr-itch.) Ttre fine control i-s obcained by the use
of a buck/boost rinding added to Ehe maj-n auto-
trans f orrer .

OPEP,ATION (Ref er to Schena tic diagrarn)

Assu-i ng that oo pushbutton is depressed, current
flows from the 104 Volt tap on che AuEocransformer
through the norTn lly clos ed contac f,,s o f K10 , K8 ,
and K9. It can be leen tbac ciepressing Ehe OFF
pushbutton in tnj.s case tras no ef f ecc, since KB
and K9 are de-ener gizeC .
Assur:ing that t,he operator wishes Eo nake an
eh?osure 2 kV less than che ind,:.cated sec ting
on the rocary sr-irca, Sl10 is depressed. Ttris
rou t es U+ \fDC through the OFF sr':l tcit and ener-
gizes K8, whlch ttJ.ocks-in" tirrough its own nor-
nally open contact. (If K9 was previously ener-
tLzedi St10 also de-energizes ir. ) I{igh vol tage
is chen sent chrough the auxillar)' r.'inding in
opposite phase co che ouEpuc of TPI- ihrough che
upper set of K8rs norEally open contacts and
chrough K9 t s nonnally closed cont,ac t . The
bucking action produced losers the ef f ec t:-ve
ou cpuE of Che auto Crans f o:rrer .

As sun'ing that the operacor tishes to nke an

exposure Z kV hiir.er Ehan, the inCicaced seicing
on the rocary swirch, Sll2 is ciepressed. This
energizes K9 , ririch " locks- in" Ehrou gh i cs oem
norrnally open concac E and de-ne:gizes K8 . High
volcage j.s senc chrough the au>:ilia:;r r"-inding in
t,he saue phase as cire oucput of 131 , which causes
a bolFvol tage to b e pro.rced , thus ra j-s ing the
effective output oi he auCoEransforrner.

If the operator rishes to r"*o t; the s tandard
setting, the OFF pushbucton is depresscd, rhich
