Flash Light Studios have been asked to source photographs


that can be used in a new tourist brochure for the Camden
area.
Vocational Scenario or As a freelancer you are keen to get this job. So that Flash
Context Light studios will consider you they have asked that all
freelancers are ready to hand in the following portfolio of
work as examples of their ability as a photographer.

Digital Photography Techniques Portfolio

You will produce a digital portfolio that gives examples


of the following techniques:

Topic B.2 Digital photography techniques


Shot types:
Framing take 4-5 photographs of the
school/students that use different framing
o macro
o landscape orientation and landscape shot
o portrait orientation and portrait shot
Task 1
o distance, e.g. close up, long shot, medium shot, medium
long shot

Angle take 4 5 photographs that explore different


angles
o high
o low
o canted
o wide this is when the lens is 35mm and below e.g.
18mm

level take a photograph from a high level/take the same


subject from a low level
o high
o low

Composition take 4 5 photographs that explore


depth of field and the creative use of background e.g.
Bokeh/lines/texture etc
o rule of thirds
o foreground
o background

Focus - take 4 5 photographs that explore


o depth of field
o sharp focus
o soft focus

Zoom take 2 -3 photographs that use zoom in a


creative way
o digital
o optical.

Topic B.3 Exporting and storing digital photographs


File transfer, e.g. from digital camera, smart device.
File formatting, e.g. Jpeg, RAW, TIF.
Storing on hard drive (file name, folder name.
Storing on external devices (memory stick, CD, DVD).

For at least 3 of photographs that you take make sure that


you make a screen shot that shows how you have imported
them, filed them, named them placed them on your google
Task 2 slides portfolio and uploaded the portfolio.

Your PP/Blog must cover the following types of photography

Types:
o location shots (uncontrollable conditions, urban, rural,
architectural, e.g. for publicity, marketing, travel websites,
nature books/websites, travel posters, leaflets etc

o studio (interior) shots, stylised (controlled) lighting, e.g.


portraits, pack shots, fashion, food, catalogue

o events photography (the money shot, unpredictable


conditions, e.g. sports, promotions, paparazzi

o night shots (lighting issues, long exposure, light trails,

Learners will understand that photography has moved a long


way from film-based cameras with negatives to modern
digital cameras but that the essential techniques
have remained the same over time.

to get a photograph that is used in/on a media
text e.g. close up studio shot for a makeup
advert.
2. Explain/analyse in what type of media it may be
