INTRODUCTION TO TOURISM
Tourism is as old as mankind on the earth. Man at the
beginning of his existence seemed about the surface of
the earth in search off food, shelter security and better
habitat. Tourism is a basic and must desirable human
activity desiring the praise and encouragement of all
people.

In the past time people are only travel for some


basic reasons like: Religious tourism, commerce. They
go to only some pilgrim centers like: Haridwar,
Vaishno-devi, Hajj etc. In the past time people travel for
long duration like they travel for to special destination
for more the one month.
According to general concept. People travel in old
age when they were free from their family matters. They
preferred to travel to pilgrimage centers. As the time
changed and new techniques are coming in tourism
industry. They preferred to buses, taxis, trains cruises
etc. Innovation of planes changed the definition of
tourism. Now people can go from one place to another
with in few hours or with in few days. Now a day’s
people are very busy. Because of the daily busy
schedule. They get bored with their daily life routines.
So they move to another place on search of peace of
mind and fun.
Now they are motivated to visit religious places
not only for religious purpose but also from recreation
purpose.

Now a day’s many types of tourism have been


divided like:-

Business Tourism:-

People who travel in relation to their work come under


the category of business tourism.

Education Tourism:-

When people who travel to relation the education


purpose one destination to another destination or one
country to another country come under the category of
education.

Now a day all countries are doing efforts to


promoting tourism industry for this tourism is being a
due important as it is the source of foreign exchange
earnings and contributes to the govt. for the
presentation of the monuments of the rich culture
heritage.
INDIA’S World Heritage Sites:-

India has a rich architectural legacy dating to an


efficient past. Timeless monuments, magnificent
temples and breathtaking sites. India never cease to
true the travelers. Of lots prestigious monuments and
natural wonders, 16 cultural and 5 natural sites of India
have already been declared world heritage sites by
UNESCO.

Some steps taken by the ministry of Tourism in India to


promote and protect the tourism destination are :-
1. Tajmahal is being restored to its natural beauty.
2. In Ahemdabad, efforts are being made by the local
govt. to clean the polluted Sabermati River.
3. Now in India ministry of tourism has introduce the
special tourist security police in Delhi and other
main destination for giving information and
protection to foreign tourists. And in India, some
govt. tourism organization are protecting heritage
building and monuments and they are
reconstructing the destroyed building India govt.
provide the tourist info. Center at destination and at
airport and other major places

Archeological Survey of India (A.S.I) has


identified many monuments of world heritage
status and efforts are being made to conserve,
reconstructed and protected them.
Now the ministry of tourism in India has
introduced a programme which is called “ATITHI
DEVO BHAVA” in India. The members of this
organization are taking care of the foreign tourist at
the airport and at destination. The foreign tourist
feels comfortable with them as they get right
information about the place. I think that it is very
good step introduced by the Indian govt. it will be
surely help us to increase tourism potential.
Presently Indian govt. is taking keen, interest to
develop the tourism industry just like other made
industries.
ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE

As we all know that the Travel Agencies are image


builder of the country, Infact they are the backbone of
the Travel and Tourism industry. The success of the
Tourism industry of any country is depend on planning
and working capacity of the personnel’s of the company
to develop tours. The successful running of travel
agencies and tour package companies is totally depend
on the organizational structure and the product
knowledge to the managers of the company. Generally
there are four main departments in the travel agency
which are-International passenger booking, Business
Tours, Domestic passenger booking, Sales and
promotion department but the structure is vary from
place to place and it varies from one agency to another.

WORKING OF TRAVEL AGENCY


Preparation of Itinerary:
The junior executive for the agency does the task. The
client sends enquiry about the package where he wants
to visit? All the places of interests and details of the
destination are mentioned in it. Executive of the agency
makes itinerary by taking are of the following points: -

# Timing for visit the city


# Avoid back tracking
# Information regarding restricted areas
# Selections special airfare or fail fare
# Duration of tour
# Purpose of tour
# Number of people going

Costing of Itinerary: -
With the help of confidential tariff itinerary is costed
while costing an itinerary all following expenses
following are calculated:
# Accommodation charges
# Slight seeing charges
# Intercity travel
# Guide charges
# Air fare/ Rail fare etc.
Accordingly, the rates are applied on the costing sheet
and then rates are calculated as per packs send to the
agent or client.

Booking of Hotels:
After preparing the itinerary, it is send to client and if
he finds it competitive with others tour costs of different
tour operators be send his conformation for the package
or tour now the next vital step of booking of hotel
comes. Request for accommodation is send to the wide
spread hotels chains have their central reservation
office in Delhi. They are booked. There are some
important points, which should keep in mind while
making booking in hotels:

# Status of booking
# Name of client
# Mode of travel
# Rooms required
# Types of room (single, double, suite)
FUNCTIONS

1. Planning, Pricing and costing tours:

The travel plains can be both types i.e. tailor made as


well as ready made. The requirements and desires of the
tourist are taken in to account and the travel planer is
made. A number of factors are taken into consideration
e.g. time, number of days, budget, comfort etc. the
specialize role of travel agency is to prepare that total
cost of the tour package that include the cost of
transportation, stay, entertainment, food, entry tickets,
escorts and tourist guide fees.

2. Ticketing:

It sells tickets to his client on all main mode of travel. A


major part of Travel agency business his arrangement at
travel both for businessman and vacationer. He does
not charge anything for client for this researcher but
gets Cimmerians for roadways, railways and steamship
companies in international and schedule and addition
of new plights makes the job of the agency one of
comment challenge. It must remains up to.
3. Information of Destination:

It provides all regarding the information about the


destination hotels, transport modes, sentencing places,
entertainment, activities, shopping centers, court and
prices etc
.
OBJECTIVES OF JOB TRAINING
REPORT

Everything has its some objective or aim without aim


everything is seems useless or meaningless. There must
be some objective of this report which as follow.

FOR THE FULLFILMENT OF B.T.M.:-

It is the most important objective of this report. The


Bachelor Degree program is incomplete without
submitted this report in the university practical exam.
This report is carrying 100 marks which include
practical report and viva-voce conducted by university.

TO SEE THE REAL PICTURE OF


TOURISM:-

We have to see the real picture of tourism in our


country because we can’t survive in tourism industry
unless we know actual condition and available position
of tourism in our country. The university set a right
concept of job training programme because of this we
have to done our training at related companies and got
knowledge about the prevented concept of tourism in
the market.
PRACTICAL EXPOSURE :-

We seeking a regular degree in tourism management so


we have not too much time to get practical knowledge
.By the help of this kind of report and training schedule
we got chances to got trained and practical or actual
work of industry. We got exposure such as –how to deal
with clients, how to handle tourists and how create a
right environment into organization where we work and
infect where we learn the industrial traits.

INTERACTION:-

Every thing is incomplete without interaction ability of


the people of any particular field. When we are of our
job training programme we have to directly interact
with clients of tourist and we also give feed back of their
queries ,In this way we learn how to interact with
tourist or customer in the market or while working in an
organization

TO ENHANCE MY MANAGEMENT
SKILLS:-

To flourish our managerial power is the main aim our


trainer and make us capable to work in challenging and
dynamic industrial atmosphere. By working with such
kind of travel companies and in fairs we got chance to
make our skills negotiable and to become a expert in
our profession and we have to our self in a way that we
may face any working atmosphere and to make our
management and communication dynamic.

TO KNOW MY STRONG AND WEAK


AREAS:-

This training procedure helps to highlight my weak


spots and give the rightly opportunity to fulfill my weak
areas by converting them in to my ability. This also
helps me to know about all my strong area of my
management. If I am lacking somewhere then I could
find a better way to improve my weakness by such kind
of job training programme.

FOR THE BETTERMENT OF FUTURE:-

By this training programme I make myself able to work


in an organization right after my completion on
graduation because if I got right guidance in training
then I will able to work everywhere without any
hesitation and fear because we have the basic
knowledge and capability to serve with any company in
any sector related to tourism.

EXPERIENCE

I got an opportunity to work with one of the Young


leading Tour Operator. I was sent to the Beach
Comber Tours, Delhi for training to have good
knowledge about Tourism. There I have learned many
things to increase my experience and exposures. I gave
my best effort to learn the travel components. I
experienced a lot during my training.
This kind of training program really helps a tourism
student to achieve perfection in tourism industry in
every aspect. During my training the most useful
experience I have learned are as follow:

 I came to know about the practical aspects of


tourism industry by which a tourism student
cannot know to be useless. He can visit such a kind
of training programmed during tenure of his study
of course. I have learned such kind of things which
helps me to be a travel professional in the market.

 I use to learn about the working area of


management such as; where it has to bind his
limits, when it has to take crucial decision
regarding business, what kind of guidance needed
by personnel in the company.
 I learned about the area of operation of a tour
operator in the industry. The work of tour operator
is not only to sell their tours and earn money but
also to satisfy the customers with their services
provided them to the vendors. Its work is also to
pursue the customer to visit again through their
particular tour operator.

 I experienced and notice the positive and negative


points in travels industry. I learn there how to
remove constraints in the tourism industry and
how to make related policy effective by making
good contacts with government and political
celebrities. Any kind of industry is not running
successfully unless it has support of political
policies and subsidies.

 I learned the kind of personality traits and hygiene


standards is require by the employee of an agency,
and kind of professionalism and working ability he
need to work with reputed company.

 I came to know that how to work in a team or how


to work with collaboration and perform the multi
task job by making healthy relations with
colleagues and work with cooperation with the
other employees of the company in the company
interest for successful running of the company.
I also experience some negative aspects during my training
such as- proper guidance, lack of willingness in personnel
of company to give knowledge of company products to the
trainee. But there is perception that every thing has its
negative and positive aspects. So, finally the positive aspect
of our training program good enough to hide weak spots of
training.
PROBLEMS

I am very to glad to work with the Travel Pals because the


informal attitude of personnel in the company. But as it is
young company so sometimes they fail to give adequate
time to us and there I also have faced some problems
which are as under:

Poor Scheduling for Trainee :

In the company there is lack of proper time table or you


can say the company makes no proper schedule for the
trainee came to them for training from many institutes
or colleges. We suffer due to this reason in our training.

Lack of Professionalism

The company’s employees are lacking in their


professionalism. They don’t have the full and adequate
knowledge about the personality traits of tourism
professionals. This leads to create a very chaotic
condition in the company.
Poor Segment of Market

Each and every type of company has a fixed target


market but in this company there is lack of the
segmentation of the market, it leads to create a hurdle
in promotion of company sale.

Lack of Discipline

The company also a negative aspect in this way There is


Lack of discipline. The students learn discipline in there
training but there is lack of discipline.

Lack of Proper Guidance

We are gone there for learning and gain knowledge


about tourism industry and its components but we have
to suffer in this aspect because of the company’s poor
management for trainer that they don’t have any right
instructor for us.
SUGGESTIONS

There should be some suggestion for travel companies


and by following these they had improve their position
and standard in the market and also among the
educational institutes:

 The travel companies must try to improve their contact


with the educational institutes that’s why they used to
called best students for training in the company.

 The managers of companies must try to maintain proper


research and development department for the proper
learning of trainee and also for the development of the
company’s business.

 The travel company also need to develop their HR


department for giving right guidance to the trainee and
helps them to build their future bright and make efforts to
provide them job placements after completions of their
study course and training. This will lead to increase the
number of tourism professional in the country.

 The tour operator should provide training to the their


employees by the time because they are usually lacking in this
aspect and give them right guidance to increase the standard of
their professionalism to maintain and extent the company’s
market size and also the number of customers.
 The company must have their own dress code that’s why the
trainee use to learn the discipline and personality traits from the
personnel of the company where they gone for their training.

 The trainee are must be treated as trainee stop misuse of


their training by giving them over work. Give them right and
proper work and tell them how to do that work, give them right
guidance and teach them how to advertise a product in the
market.

 The company has also used to make arrangements for trainee


for accommodation and eatables; in fact they used to adopt
incentives policies to motivate the trainees to work accordingly
and enthusiastically.
CONCLUSION

Finally, I summarized that such kind of training


program are usefully for a student to make its career
bright and helps to learn them personality traits of
tourism professional required in the this global
industry. By such kind of training we got a lot of
experience and practical exposure which is very
important which helps us to built our career in tourism
and make ourselves capable to work in challenging and
dynamic environment of the relevance.
I also used to learn many positive as well as negative
aspects also and I learn how to handle the loose
situations and critical atmosphere in tourism industry.
