DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT-1

Question:

The following data were obtained during a tension test of an aluminium alloy.
The initial diameter of the test specimen was 12.827mm. And the gage length
was 50.8 mm.

Plot the stress-strain diagram and determine the following mechanical

properties:
(a) proportional limit; (b) modulus of elasticity; (c) yield point; (d) ultimate
strength; and (e) rupture strength.
Solution:

`Stress =P/A

P Load in N , A- Area in mm2

A = (/4)2

d- diameter of the aluminium alloy

Strain = dl/l

l length of the aluminium alloy

Here, d = 12.827mm

l = 50.8 mm

Using the stress and strain formula I calculated the tabulated value and
plotted the stress strain curve.

Comparing both the pictures we obtain,

1. Proportional limit = 89.8128 N/mm2

2. Modulus of elasticity = 97.555/89.8128=1.0862
3. Yield point = 108.395 N/mm2
4. Ultimate strength= 114.0402 N/mm2
5. Rupture strength =105.292 N/mm2
