Description:

A war re-erupts on Earth between two robotic clans, the heroic Autobots and
WKHHYLO'HFHSWLFRQVOHDYLQJWKHIDWHRIPDQNLQGKDQJLQJLQWKHEDODQFH,I\RX·UHD
fan of the movie transformers waiting for the 3rd part, come here to unleash your
thirst.

The Robot which completes the task in the minimum time is declared as The
Winner and The savior of mankind. Simple isn't it?? Well if you think so, come and
take away all the accolades.

Problem Statement:

This event is intended to showcase basic sensor design and robot control
systems in the form of a fully autonomous robot which must follow a black line over
a white surface. Design an autonomous bot that navigates through the given arena
in the shortest possible time.

Specification:

1. The robot must traverse the black line which will have rounded 90ஈ and 180ஈ
turns.
2. The robot must start and end in the same check point.
3. The starting procedure of the robot should be simple and should not involve
giving the machine any manual force or impulse in any direction.
4. A robot may be asked to start on either side of the track.
5. Each robot is supposed to indicate with a suitable indicator (LED, LCD,
Buzzer, etc.), clearly visible to the judges, when the Bot has reached the
check point and successfully completed the task. This indicator should be
´RIIµDWDOORWher times.
6. Each team is allowed a maximum of 3 restarts. All restarts require the
approval of the presiding judges before the robot can be removed from the
arena.
7. During a restart, the machine will have to be restarted by
x switching it off,
x putting it back on the start zone,
x switching it on.
In a restart, the timer will be reset back to zero.
8. During restarts, a contestant may not feed information about the arena to the
machine. However contestants are allowed to: Adjust sensors (Gain, Position
etc.), Change speed settings and Make repairs. However a contestant may not
alter a robot in a manner that alters its weight (e.g. removal of a bulky sensor
array or switching to lighter batteries to get better speed).
9. The participants are requested not to assume anything without discussing
with the event managers.
10. Participants are not allowed to keep anything inside the arena other than the
robot.
11. The judges may stop any robot at any time if they feel that it is performing,
or is about to perform, any action that is dangerous or hazardous to people or
equipment.

Arena Specifications:

1. The arena will be a square of size 3.0 m x 3.0m in dimension.

2. The entire arena will have a white background.
3. The Black line will be painted on the white background with Non-Reflective
paint.
4. The circuit may contain

a. Gentle rounded corners (90ஈ turn)

b. Sharp rounded corners (90ஈ turn)
c. U-turns (180ஈ turn)

(There will be sufficient space for the Bot to take turns)

5. For 180ஈ turn, the minimum distance between the two parallel lines will be
30 cms.
6. At the start of a round, the robot will be placed on the line just outside the
start zone.
7. The finish is marked by the robot entering the check point and staying there
for a minimum of 10 secs.
8. The check point will be a Black Square of size 30cm x 30cm in dimension.
9. There will be no dead ends or line breaks in the path anywhere in the arena.
10. The sample arena and dimensions are explained below diagrammatically.
This is just a sample and the original arena may or may not resemble the
picture.

Sample arena :

Event Rules:

General:

1. There will be only one trial run for all participants.

2. Separate sample arenas will be provided for sensor calibration prior to the
event.
3. The time measured by the organizers will be final and will be used for scoring
the teams. Time measured by any contestant by any other means is not
acceptable for scoring.
4. In case of any disputes / discrepancies, the organizers' decision will be final
and binding.
5. Any doubts or ambiguities in the problem statement should be clarified as
early as possible directly by contacting us, no cribs during the event will be
entertained.

Judging Criteria:

Every team will be awarded 100 points initially.

25 points will be deducted from the base points for every restart.

20 points will be awarded to the team with the shortest time, 10 points to the
second shortest and 5 for the third.

Eligibility:

1. A team may consist of a maximum of 4 members. Students can be from

different institutions and departments.
2. Participants have to bring their own ID cards (issued by their college), they
will be disqualified otherwise.
3. Last date for entries: 25th August, 2010.

Bot Specifications:

1. The robot has to fit inside a box of dimensions 20 cm x 20 cm x 50 cm. (length

x breadth x height) where the length is measured along the direction of
motion. The robot should not exceed these dimensions at any point of the
event.
2. The potential difference across any two points in the robot must not exceed
12 V dc.
3. Robots must be autonomous and powered by only onboard power source
(Battery).
4. Data links to off-board computers are not allowed.
5. Human-operated remote controls are not allowed.
6. The robot must deal with the lighting conditions as they appear. That is,
room lighting will be set "as it is" and won't be modified for individual
contestants.
7. The robot should not be made from any readymade or pre-fabricated robotics
kit. Readymade gear assembly, chassis, wheels can be used.
