Storage devices is a computer device that is used to store / accommodate data from computer
processing. The stored data can be permanent and temporary

Basically, the storage medium is divided into 2, namely:

- Primary Storage

- Secondary Storage

Primary storage

Characterized by:

higher access speeds

Limited capacity / small

Can be accessed directly by the CPU

Expensive price

Main memory

There are 4 sections in primary storage, namely:

1. Input Storage Area: To accommodate the data read

2. Program Storage Area: Storage instructions for processing

3. Working Storage Area: The place where data processing is done

4. Output Storage Area: Storage of information that has been processed for a while before being
supplied to the output devices.

Based on its primary Accessing memory is divided into two, namely:

1. RAM (RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY)

Part of main memory, which can insert the data or program from diskette or other sources. Where
the data can be written or read on location anywhere in the memory. RAM is volatile.

2. ROM (READ ONLY MEMORY)

Read-only memory. Charging ROM with programs and data, done by the factory. ROM is usually
written program or data from the factory with specific objectives.
Secondary Storage

Secondary Storage is a data storage device / program permanent, information / data that is stored on those tools
can be taken and transferred by the CPU when needed.

Characterized by:

Can not be accessed directly by the CPU (to be copied first to the buffer memory)

Access speed is lower

Valuable cheaper

Large capacity

Example: magnetic tape, magnetic disk, optical disk, flash memory.

Non-volatile storage

The major use of secondary storage, among others:

Storage program for use on future

Storage of information in the form of files.

Here are the types of secondary storage media (Secondary storage):

1) Hard Drive

The task of a hard disk storage is doing. All that is stored in our computer is on a hard disk. Not just documents,
pictures, music, and video. Programs, preferences, and even the operating system, everything is stored in our
computer's hard disk.

Everything that can be stored on the hard disk is measured by size. Text size is very small, whereas the bigger
picture, the music is even bigger, and videolah the greatest of all.

Hard disk is like a scale. Not knowing the difference antarbenda in it; only measure what they know. But
besides pound, hard disk measuring objects based megabytes (MB), gigabyte (GB) and terabytes (TB.) Roughly
speaking, one megabyte equals 1 million bytes, one gigabyte equals one billion bytes, and one terabyte is equal
to 1 trillion bytes.

There are four basic ways to connect your hard drive to your computer:

2) CD / DVD

CD or compact disc is a circular disc made of metal or plastic-coated material that can be electrified, so
magnetic. CD also stores data. Data recorded on it, then read from disk using pengonduksi called head coil.
During the reading process, the head does not move at all. While the disk platters moving underneath.

Disc made of polycarbonate material coated with aluminum because the surface is reflective. The information
tracked from the CD by using a low-intensity laser that is placed in the optical disc player or drive unit.

DVD is not much different from the CD, only the capacity that distinguishes its course. CD capacity between
650 MB to 1 GB, whereas the 4.7 GB DVD can accommodate up to 17 GB.
3) Mobile Storage

Most mobile devices can store information in three lokasi.Salah of which is the internal memory. The internal
memory of the mobile device consists of a RAM (Random Access Memory) and ROM (Read Only Memory). In
short, RAM is the memory space on a mobile device that can be used to temporarily store information for the
task. When the device is turned off, all data in RAM will generally disappear. ROM is generally pre-
programmed, often designed to perform certain discrete tasks. The mobile device also stores information in a
SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) card and memory card. Last, the mobile device can store information on a
variety of machines and other devices that interact with mobile devices, including e-mail server, the server of
the service provider (for text messages), and personal computers.

4) Tape

Tape is a method of storing images and sound recordings in magnetic tape, in contrast with the theatrical
film. However, audio tapes have been rare to find today because many already switched to CD.

5) Floppy Disk

Floppy Disk is often what we call the diskette. Now this floppy banya not circulate, even in the category
of extinction. People prefer to use a USB disk, where the size and shape are also superior.

6) USB Disk

USB Disk as I mentioned earlier, we often call it as USB. This type of media can hold data ranging from
128 MB up to 1 TB USB itself is a storage device that can be used by entering it into the USB port on a
computer or portable device. Its own shape now vary on the market, there is a form of dolls, robots, even there
in the form of thin plates only
