contrastive study of it with the Russian counterpart
T he Chinese le 1 ()in the post-verb posi tio n is a perfective marker in modern Chinese .T he
perfect ive meaning of the marker is analyzed into t wo sub-types :the co ntex t-independent
meaning , and the contex t-dependent meaning .T he former w ill be referred to as t he invariant
perfect ive meaning , and the latter variant perfective meaning .T his paper examines the invariant
perfect ive meaning of t he Chinese le 1by contrasti ng it w ith some counterparts of Russian verbs .

s paper Cog nitive approach to Chinese functional grammar (L inguistics Abroad ,

1990 , 1991)has proved to be inf luential .This paper reex amines his position on the cogni tive base
of time concept ualizatio n in Chinese .Tai holds that t he Chinese no tion of time is more or less
similar to the Eng lish conception of time in terms of spatial metaphors .He argues that Chinese
conceives time in tw o ways .One is that time is seen as if it w ould approach the perceiving person .
T he ot her is that t he perceiving person would approach t ime .It is show n in this paper t hat a more
realistic description of Chinese concept ion of time is that , instead of the perceiving person
approaches t ime , he observes event s t aking place .The prototy pical f eature of Chinese conception
of time is event-based .

Xiong, Ziyu and Lin , Maocan , Prosodic features of a ( )and their conversational
communicative functions
Some recent studies indicate that there is a very close relationship betw een t he prosodic f eatures of
conversation and their com municative functions :the prosodic features of conversation are
cont rolled to some extent by t heir communicative funct ions , and the communicative functio ns of
conversations are indicated by t heir prosodic features in some degree .In this paper , w e divide a
()into three categories according to its f unctions , i . e .ex clamation , auxiliary word , and
conversational indicator .T he paper focuses on investigating the relationship betw een the prosodic
features of a and their comm unicative functions in the nature speech , and analyzing the
differences among prosodic features of t he three kinds of a .T he finding s show that the prosodic
features are sig nificant ly dif ferent among the t hree kinds of a , and their communicat ive
functions in the stream of natural speech are indicated by t heir respective prosodic feat ures .
