SELF-SUFFICIENT COMMUNITY
JUSTIFICATION
With the increased population, design is only focused towards the revenue generation and
incorporation the floating population. In these cases no such attention is provided towards
nautre and the management of waste produced. This produced waste causes many problems
such as, pollution of soil and ground water, pile of garbage causes unplesent views etc.
Sustainability challenges us to reflect on wastewater treatment & wate management differently.
Instead of focussing on end-of-pipe-treatment for emission prevention, attention shifts towards
optimal resource utilisation, favouring the development of decentralised systems.
AIM
The aims is to design a SELF-SUFFICIENT COMMUNITY
OBJECTIVES
To understand the common design issue faced by community.
To design and innovate layouts solving problems of community
To design spaces for more involvement of public.
To plan and Design on the concept of EOD-Employment Oriented Development.
To incorporate sustainable features.i.e RWH, DWWT, WSUD features & Solar power
use.
To plan and design on 3R-Principle-RE-USE, REDUCE, RE-CYCLE.
SCOPE
Better living conditions, air quality because of more involvement of green spaces and
gathering spaces.
Reduced carbon footprint.i.e Less O&M cost.
Providing the people of society a desiring and a comfortable place for their living.

Creating employment opportunities.
LIMITATIONS
This thesis is limited to the design & planning part, structural calculations will come
under limitations.
This thesis is limited to the design, placement & basic calculations of SUDs, DWWT
& RWH features.
The estimation and the costing are the part of limitations.
METHODOLOGY
The process starts by identifying aims and objectives and followed by the literature study and
reviews. Literature gives a sought into the work and makes easy to identify the different
aspects of a community i.e., architectural, social, and areas of improvement. It helps
understand the materials, techniques, difference in social lives. One can even make inferences
from the case study. All these lead to the comparisons and can be concluded with the results
obtained. Finally, the concept is evolved and progressed towards developing a design.
