B0700EM Rev B Preface

xiv
1. Basic Workstation Setup
This chapter identifies the basic parts of specific Model H92 Workstation and explains how to
determine which interface cards and internal/external drives are used with each workstation.
This chapter contains all the information necessary to set up the Model H92 Workstation. Before
performing any procedures in this document, you must determine the following information
about your workstation:
Number of monitors used with the workstation
Amount of RAM installed (4GB default)
Size of internal system hard drive
Type of Ethernet card(s) (if present)
Available I/O interface cards (if present)
The Model H92 Workstations are shipped preconfigured from Invensys with all cards, internal
hard drives, and Windows XP Professional operating system (with Service Pack 3).
The following sections describe how to determine this information about your workstation.

Determining Your Workstation Configuration

You can determine basic information about your workstation from the H-Code.
H-Code is a production code used to identify a machine and its hardware configuration. The
H-Code can be found on a label on the top of the Model H92 Workstation as shown in
Figure 1-2. The label is illustrated in Figure 1-1. The information found on this label lets you
identify:
H-Code for your workstation
Style type (H92*A) (ignore the revision level)

NOTE
If you are unable to locate your H-Code, or you have made modifications to your
machine without updating the H-Code, contact 1-866-746-6477 or, outside the
U.S., 508-549-2424 for assistance.

NOTE
Now that you have determined the necessary component information for your
Model H92 Workstation, you can proceed with the instructions provided in this
document.

NOTE
I/A Series system qualified serial and parallel ports are optional on the HP H-Series
workstations and servers. The base machines do not ship with either serial or paral-
lel ports for use with I/A Series or Foxboro Control System peripherals. The
P0923ME dual serial port, single parallel port PCIe card, and the K0174JH
CS_Alarms Compatibility Disk are required for emulation of the P-Series worksta-
tion and server serial port and parallel port functionality.

NOTE
External USB Floppy drives are optional and not every system is shipped with this
drive. Ensure that the USB floppy disk drive is plugged into the workstation before
you install the I/A Series software. If the USB disk drive is not plugged into the
workstation and the Commit disk is requested by the I/A Series installation pro-
gram, an error message displaying Floppy drive not available appears. This
closes the installation program and all the errors are recorded in a log file. This also
forces re-imaging of the operating system and re-installation of the I/A Series soft-
ware.

! WARNING
Do NOT disconnect the digital video cables from the NVIDIA NVS 295 or NVS
450 graphics card during operations on a running system. Disconnecting the cable
from either the computer end or the monitor end will cause video resolution prob-
lems. The NVIDIA graphics card will dynamically reset the driver configuration,
resulting in a video frame buffer size that exceeds the monitor resolution. Discon-
necting the video cable on a running system will have a negative effect on the oper-
ation of the H92 workstation.
This warning will be repeated again in the document to advise you of potential neg-
ative consequences.

! WARNING
Do NOT disconnect the fiber cable from the Matrox Remote Graphics Unit on a
running system. If the fiber cable is disconnected either from the PCIe card
mounted in the computer or the Remote Graphics Unit interface box on an operat-
ing and running system, reconnecting the fiber cable to either component will not
provide video functionality. To restore video functionality, you must reboot the sys-
tem with the fiber cable attached correctly.

Hardware Upgrades prior to installing any software.

Setting CMOS BIOS Parameters

NOTE
Model H92 workstations are customized to operate correctly with I/A Series Soft-
ware from Invensys Foxboro. These changes involve BIOS settings, operating sys-
tem parameters, and application services.

The CMOS BIOS parameters vary slightly, depending on which configuration of peripherals you
are using. The following procedure indicates which parameters differ and provides the required
settings for each workstation. These settings are configured at the Invensys Foxboro factory.
Proceed as follows to check and configure the setup parameters for the CMOS BIOS for your
Model H92 Workstation.
1. After turning on the workstation, press F10 to run the BIOS setup.
2. The first BIOS settings page opens. Under the General section, set the current time
and date.
3. Set the parameters on this page to the values listed in Table 1-3.
4. Under the File menu of the BIOS, select Save Changes and Exit.

Touchscreen Cabling Connections

USB interface touchscreens were introduced with the model P77*N monitors and continue to the
present time. The former serial interface type touchscreens were discontinued with the Model
P77*Q monitors. Although new monitors can only be provided with USB interfaces, serial touch-
screen monitors operating through GCIO modules from earlier installations may still be used
with the Model H92 Z400 processor.
Some GCIO setups use touchscreens and some do not. USB touchscreens do not require a
GCIO. The GCIO address for touchscreen is 2 for the primary GCIO. However, for non-touch-
screen, the GCIO addresses are P for the primary and S for the secondary GCIO. The primary
GCIO connection can be configured as either touchscreen or non-touchscreen, and the secondary
GCIO connection is configured independently as non-touchscreen.
The optional touchscreen feature is available for the current 20-inch LCD monitor (USB inter-
face only). The serial interface version may be found on some discontinued 21-inch CRT and 20-
inch LCD monitors.
Proceed as follows:
1. Make the cable connections as shown in Figure 1-9.
If you are configuring a local USB touchscreen or a serial touchscreen, make the
connections shown in Figure 1-9 (for serial touchscreens) and Figure 1-10. Refer
to Table 1-4 for descriptions and lengths of the cables in each cable group refer-
enced in the diagram.
If you are using a remote USB touchscreen as an input device, install the USB
extender kit, as shown in Figure 1-10 and Figure 1-11. Refer to Table 1-5 for
descriptions and lengths of the cables in each cable group referenced in the dia-
gram.
2. Locate the letterbug address selector switches at the rear of GCIO interface module
(Figure 1-9).
3. Determine, from the human interface software configuration information for your
system, the letterbug address associated with the touchscreen:
Primary Touchscreen = Letterbug 2 (P for non-touchscreen)
Secondary = Letterbug S for non-touchscreen.
4. Using the chart printed on the underside of the GCIO interface module as a guide, set
the letterbug address switches for the required letterbug address.

NOTE
GCIO-based annunciator keyboards are not supported using the USB interface. For
USB touchscreens with GCIO-based annunciator keyboards, use either the
USB/serial hybrid system shown in Figure 1-10 or the serial touchscreen system.

Remote Human Interface Connections

Remote Connections Using a Remote Graphics Unit
The H92 workstation can be configured with a Remote Graphics Unit PCIe card that connects to
a dual or quad Remote Graphics Unit (RGU). Two versions of RGUs are available:
Dual RGU with 2 Display ports supporting DVI video connections to one or two
monitors.
Quad RGU with 4 Display ports supporting DVI video connections up to four
monitors.
The RGU is connected to the Remote Graphics Unit PCIe card installed in the H92 workstation
by a fiber-optic cable. The USB keyboard, mouse, trackball, touchscreens, and audio can be con-
nected through the RGU, which allows the H92 workstation to be located at distances from the
RGU of up to 70 meters (230ft) with 62.5/125 m fiber or 1 kilometer (3280 ft) with 50/125 m
fiber cable. The RGU features 2 IEEE ports, 5 USB 2.0 ports, and passive (fanless) cooling. The
RGU also includes a universal input power supply.

Remote Connections Notes and Warnings

1. The mouse and keyboard must be connected locally to the workstation until the
Matrox driver has been installed.
2. The USB cable must be connected prior to installing the Matrox driver. Connect one
end of the USB cable included with your product to the USB connector on your
interface card. Connect the other end of your cable to a USB connector on the back of
the workstation. Make sure your connectors are properly connected. Refer to
Figure 1-22 for details. Do not disconnect the USB cable after connection and
Matrox driver installation. The USB jumper cable must remain connected between
the H92 computer and the Matrox RGU PCIe card.
3. If you want to use the remote touchscreen capability, you cannot connect the touch-
screen through the USB hub. Connect the touchscreen cable from the RGU directly
to the monitor as shown in Figure 1-5 and Figure 1-7.
4. Since the RGU is an extension of the H92s PCI bus, the fiber connection between
the H92 and the Remote Graphics Unit must stay connected for the H92 to run. If
this fiber cable is disconnected, the H92 workstation will halt.
5. The Remote Graphics Unit must remain powered for the H92 to run. If the unit is
unpowered, the H92 will halt.
6. When the RGU PCIe card is installed in the H92 workstation, you must use the RGU
for video connections. You cannot use another video port.

Remote Cabling
Connecting a peripheral to the RGU requires fiber cables, MMF with LC/LC ends. Part numbers
for these cables are listed below. The 62.5 m, MMF cable lengths between 50 and 150 meters
and all of the 50 m, MMF cables which extend to 400 meters are customer-supplied.

NOTE
Detailed installation and setup instructions are available in the document Flat Panel
Monitor Software Setup for UNIX and Windows Workstations (B0193PL). Begin-
ning on page 12 of the document B0193PL, the user will find the instructions nec-
essary for Windows Workstation USB Touchscreen Installation, Setup, and
Calibration.

USB touchscreens do not require a GCIO. The Model H92 workstation supports up to four dis-
plays with USB touchscreen capability. The optional touchscreen feature is available with 20-inch
flat panel LCD monitor.
To make the remote touchscreen connections, perform the following steps:
1. Make the connections to the Remote Graphics Unit PCIe card, as described in
Figure 1-23.
2. Configure the display driver for multiple displays, if required.
3. Install the Touchware software supplied with the touchscreens.
4. Map the touchscreens to the monitors.
5. Calibrate each touchscreen.

! CAUTION
1. Do not disconnect the touchscreens from the USB ports after mapping.

2. Do not attempt a touchscreen calibration from a remote client. To prevent

remote client sessions from requesting a touchscreen calibration after login,
calibrate the touchscreen on the server at all screen resolutions remote clients
may use.

On the server head with a touchscreen, change the servers screen resolution to
1024x768 and perform a touchscreen calibration from the Touchware software.
Change the server screen resolution to 800x600 and perform a touchscreen
calibration from the Touchware software. Perform this step for every screen
resolution that remote clients may use. Doing so prevents the Touchware
software from requesting a calibration on the remote desktop clients.

You can also check the box next to Do not remind me when display
settings change and click OK the first time the Touch Screen Calibration
Needed popup appears.

You have completed connections for remote USB touchscreen cabling.

Remote Speaker Connections

Connect the speakers remotely, as shown in Figure 1-20. The Remote Graphics Unit and associ-
ated PCIe card is required for cable lengths longer than 16 feet. For cable lengths up to 16 feet,
the USB extension cable P0972RJ may be used.

The integrated NIC should only be used for a corporate or secondary network con-
nectivity. Do not use the on-board NIC connection for I/A Series Control Systems
connections.

39
B0700EM Rev B 1. Basic Workstation Setup

! WARNING
The Network Interface Cards (NICs) of the workstation that are used for The Mesh
control network must not be disabled from the My Network Connections tool, or
from any other application in the Windows operating system. The I/A Series con-
trol system remains active and online during system stress. Manual disconnection of
the workstation from The Mesh can disturb the resiliency of the operating system.
A workstation that connects to The Mesh should not be offline, asleep, or in a state
of hibernation. When the NICs connecting to The Mesh are disabled or placed
offline by the operating system, the intermediate card driver becomes unstable and
the system may stop responding. DO NOT turn off the NICs that connect to The
Mesh control network.

Connecting to The Mesh Control Network

In an I/A Series Version 8.2 or later control network, Model H92 Workstations are connected to
the network with Allied Telesis copper or fiber-optic Ethernet Network Interface Cards (NICs).
The copper or fiber NICs installed in the H92 workstation connect the workstation to the Ether-
net switches in The Mesh control network. It is recommended that you connect the workstation
to two different switches in The Mesh to provide redundant data signal paths and eliminate single
points of failure.
How the H92 workstation connects to an Ethernet switch in The Mesh depends on the type of
switch and the Ethernet cards installed in the H92. A H92 workstation can be connected directly
to an Ethernet switch RJ-45 copper port via CAT5 cabling, or to an Ethernet switch MT-RJ fiber-
optic port via fiber-optic cabling. A media converter can also be used to connect a workstation
with a copper NIC to an Ethernet switchs fiber-optic port and vice versa.
For additional information and detailed instructions on connecting workstations and other com-
ponents to The Mesh control network, refer to The MESH Control Network Architecture Guide
(B0700AZ).

RAID Configuration
The H92 supports internal RAID (redundant array of independent drives). RAID 1 mirroring
or RAID 1 with a hot spare to provide additional levels of hard drive redundancy in case of hard
drive failures. Other RAID configurations are not recommended for use with I/A Series software.
Drives are not hot swappable. The workstation must be shut down to replace failed drives and
rebuild the RAID set.
If you ordered your H92 with RAID, it has been configured at the factory. Parts are available to
replace a failed drive or to upgrade to RAID in the field. See Chapter 5 Installing Hardware
Upgrades
There are two ways to administer the RAID configuration. Use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager
utility (CTRL-I) when you start up the computer. Alternatively, you can use the Intel Rapid Stor-
age Technology Installer after the operating system has been loaded to install the Intel Rapid Stor-
age Technology program. The Intel Rapid Storage Technology software is installed on the H92
workstation image DVD.

This chapter provides an installation procedure for the initial installation (Day 0) of your
I/A Series software. This procedure is specific to the hardware platform defined in Chapter 1
Basic Workstation Setup of this document.
When you receive your workstation from Invensys, it comes pre-configured and ready for
I/A Series software to be installed. You must install the I/A Series software yourself, as described
below in the Installing I/A Series Software sections and in I/A Series version-specific release
notes shipped with the I/A Series software. Make sure that you also refer to the release notes
shipped with I/A Series software for version-specific instructions you may need to follow for
installation of a particular version of I/A Series software on a H92 processor, for example, install-
ing security updates, setting up the firewall, and installing required trailer media.
The following sections describe the complete I/A Series software configuration specifically
designed for the Model H92 Workstations. To determine your workstations H-Code, refer to
Determining Your Workstation Configuration on page 1. These instructions do not apply to
any other Workstations.

3. Image Recovery, Windows XP
Professional Operating System
This chapter describes how to install the Windows XP Professional operating system with
Service Pack 3 on this specific Model H92 Workstation, using the image recovery method.

Image Recovery Notes

Be aware of the following before attempting image recovery.

NOTE
Prior to performing this quick restoration (installation) of the Windows XP Profes-
sional operating system with Service Pack 3, you must install all hardware and con-
nect all cabling to the workstation, as described in Chapter 1 Basic Workstation
Setup.

NOTE
Model H92 workstations are customized to operate correctly with I/A Series Soft-
ware from Invensys Foxboro. These changes involve BIOS settings, operating sys-
tem parameters, and application services.

NOTE
For client workstations in an I/A Series system with Foxboro Control Software
installed on them, be aware of the following. The local security databases on the cli-
ent workstations are synchronized to the security database of the Galaxy server
when the Refresh History and Security Database operation is performed from the
ArchestrA IDE application. However, if a client workstation in this system is down
while this operation is running on the other workstations, the client workstation
will not be able to synchronize its local security database when it starts up. The
Security Provider will be generating Trace messages containing the following text:
Reset In Progress, receive no data. Sequence Number:0. Restart the
InFusionSyncService service on the Galaxy server to enable the client workstation to
synchronize its local security database.

59
B0700EM Rev B 3. Image Recovery, Windows XP Professional Operating System

NOTE
In some cases, restoring the image of a client workstation with Foxboro Control
Software (FCS) installed on it can cause the clients security subsystem to stop
updating the local security database on the client. It is recommended that you create
and restore images on all the FCS workstations (Galaxy and client) at the same
time. If this is not practical, refer to the table below for recovery recommendations
from problematic workflows.

Alarm Manager Multi-Head Video Configurations

By default, the Alarm Manager chooses its window size based on the size of the overall desktop. In
a dual or quad-headed configuration, this choice may not be optimal.
After I/A Series software is installed there are two methods that can be used to change the size and
position of the Alarm Manager:
Use the graphical Alarm/Display Manager configurator, which is described in Work-
station Alarm Management (B0700AT) or
Manually edit the Alarm Manager configuration file which is described as follows:
1. Save a backup of the following file: D:\usr\fox\customer\alarms\cfg\am_def.cfg
2. Open the original am_def.cfg file in an editor (such as Wordpad or vi).
3. Corresponding to each type of Alarm Manager window is a line that contains the
string: WinSizPos.
These lines determine the size and position of each window, and can be edited to pro-
vide a more desirable layout. Table 3-3 provides the parameters available to you to use
in this string.
For example, in a configuration with four heads arranged in a 2x2 array, a good choice
is to make the windows quarter screen. To do this, change every WinSizPos line to
QUR for quarter screen, upper right. You can search and replace these settings as long
as case sensitivity is on.

Installing/Replacing Hard Drives

The Model H92 HP Z400 ships with a single 250 GB hard drive in the default H-Code configu-
ration. A hard drive may be added for increased hard drive space or to reconfigure the system in a
RAID 1 configuration. Add or replace the hard drives according to the instructions in the HP
Z400 Maintenance and Service Guide. See the section Removing and Installing Components.
For instructions on adding a third hard drive, see the Hewlett-Packard Z400 product manual doc-
ument HP Z Workstations - HP Optical Bay Hard Drive Bracket Installation.

RAID Configuration
The H92 supports internal RAID (redundant array of independent drives). RAID 1 mirroring
or RAID 1 with a hot spare provide additional levels of hard drive redundancy in case of hard
drive failures.

! WARNING
The conversion of a non-RAID system to a RAID based system is a destructive pro-
cess. All data on the current single hard drive will be lost during this process. This
drive information should be backed-up prior to converting to a RAID system.

NOTE
If you choose to use the Intel Matrix Storage Manager ROM utility, it is recom-
mended that the drives be of equal size. In a RAID configuration, when using drives
of different sizes, the size of the configuration will be the smaller of the two drives.
