LESSON PLAN
C1: The Church (Gods family) includes people of C1.2 Identifies the wide range of people who belong
different ages, needs and countries. to Gods family.
Lesson Objectives
1. Name a minimum of three different types of people present in the Church/ Gods family.
2. Design a minimum of three distinguishably different characters with a paper people chain.

Introduction:
1. The lesson will begin with students being seated on the mat.
2. The teacher will make a statement articulating that Jesus has called
8 minutes many different people into his Church.
3. The teacher will ask students to close their eyes and visualise their/ a
Church or parish congregation and the many different people that are
present.
4. The teacher will then split students into groups of four or five, with each
group being given a piece of A3 paper and a range of coloured A3 paper
markers. Students will then brainstorm examples of the different Coloured markers
people that they may have seen. Examples from students may include:
- Families
- Children
- Adults
- Babies
- Teenagers
- The elderly
- People of different weights and heights
- People of different nationalities
- People of different skin colours
- People with disabilities
- Those who are sick
5. The teacher will then direct students attention back to the board and Whiteboard/
compile students findings on the whiteboard. whiteboard markers

6. The teacher will then read aloud the following scripture quote from the
classroom Bible:
Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and Classroom Bible
teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And
17 surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

7. The teacher will then reiterate that people of Gods family are found all
around the world and include many different people.
8. The teacher will then explain the activity to be completed by students Paper chain
which will involve decorating a paper people chain with each person template
reflecting an individual mentioned during the class and small group Pencil cases
brainstorms. Students will be provided with a template which they will Scissors
decorate and then cut around.
9. The completed paper people chains will later be displayed in the Heading (printed)
classroom under the heading We All Belong to Gods Family.
Conclusion:
10. Once students have completed their paper chains, they will bring them Music - Instrumental
down to the mat with them and sit in a circle. Background Music

encouraged to stand up and place their people in the centre of the
mat, forming a circle by connecting the hands of their paper people
chain. Once all paper chains have placed in the circle, the teacher will
conclude the lesson by saying the following prayer:
Dear Lord,
We thank you for the gift of belonging and calling us all to be part of
your family.
Today we have learnt that a wide range of people belong to this family,
and so we ask that you pray and watch over our brothers and sisters
around the world and in our communities.

Evidence of Learning for Assessment and Reporting
To assess whether the objectives of the lesson have been met anecdotal notes will be taken. To determine
whether students have understood the learning point of many different people belonging to Gods family, the
people of the paper chain should be distinguishably different. A checklist will be used to record whether students
have, have not or are working towards achieving the objectives based on the observations made.
