Fault Code 1376

Engine Camshaft Speed/Position Sensor - Data Erratic, Intermittent, or Incorrect

CODES REASON EFFECT

Fault Code: 1376 Engine Camshaft Speed/Position Possible poor starting. Engine power derate.
PID(P), SID(S): Sensor - Data Erratic,
SPN: 723 Intermittent, or Incorrect. The
FMI: 2 ECM has detected an error in the
Lamp: Maintenance engine camshaft speed/position
SRT: signal.

Circuit Description:
The engine camshaft speed/position sensor provides engine position information to the ECM. The engine camshaft speed/
position sensor is powered by 5 VDC. The engine camshaft speed/position sensor generates the signal by sensing the
movement of target teeth machined into the camshaft gear.

Component Location:
The engine camshaft speed/position sensor is located above the fuel pump, in back of the gear housing.

Shop Talk:
There are multiple ECMs for the engine models included in this manual. Each ECM has an individual source address that
displays when INSITE electronic service tool is connected. When troubleshooting a fault code, use the source address
displayed in INSITE electronic service tool to determine which ECM and circuit is affected.
This fault code is recorded when the ECM does not receive or receives a degraded signal from the engine camshaft
speed/position sensor
The fault code will go inactive when the normal backup camshaft speed/position sensor signal is detected.
Possible causes of this fault code include:
Open circuit on the SUPPLY, SIGNAL, or RETURN circuits in the camshaft speed/position sensor, engine harness, or
ECM
Short circuits to ground or RETURN circuits in the sensor, engine harness, or ECM
Short circuits to a voltage source in the sensor, engine harness, or ECM
Damage to the engine camshaft speed/position sensor target teeth or camshaft gear.
INSITE electronic service tool monitor parameters associated with this fault code and sensor include:
Camshaft speed/position sensor state.
If this fault code occurs intermittently, look closely for causes of intermittent harness connections, such as loose or worn
pins in the engine harness connectors.
If this fault code occurs intermittently, Fault Code 2322 will also be active or have high counts.
